Naming a corporation

Scrummy, Yummy, Nectar, Master Cief, Three Star Chef (a reference to the Michelin rating guide), Five Star Chef (for the ignorant), Come Alive Foods, Fruits Foods, Fritz Foods, Gastronomy a Go Go, Nice Bites, Great Bites, Big Bite Foods, Delighted Diner, Chequered Flag Foods, Get Some In(n), Nice'n Tasty Tucker (yuck - I hate that one, but hey throw the hat in the ring), Dinner Gong, A1, Top Nosh, Top Tucker, A to Z, Nice and Tasty, Taste Treat, Florentina, Davos, Gentle Springs Enough for now - I hope that this can spark off something.

I actually think Firecat would be kind of cool. You could get the guys over in the photoshop section to put together a Firefox-esque logo for you.

I haven't ruled it out completely.

Well, let's get serious now.
It would be smart from a marketing point of view if your name has nothing to do with what you'll be selling. You might start off in restaurants, then move to food production, maybe even agriculture, or maybe go a different way completely and opening an inssurance company for farmers. Who knows what the future holds. Better if the name was something completely different, as long as it sounds like a household name. Usually in the foods market names are picked after tradition and express regionalism. Like say Wendy's ... with it's name it says that sometime it started small and then it grew into what it is today. It also says that they didn't change their name for a long time, keeping a good tradition that lasted all these years. It also has an american name because it makes american style meals.

Thus, I believe the foreign-sounding names will depend rather on what types of foods you're going to sell, rather than picking a french name because it sounds cool. When it comes to foods, people usually associate italian-sounding names with italian food, french-sounding names with french food, chinese sounding names with chinese food and so on. But if you want to sell domestic merchandise, you should stick to what you already know.

Give us a bit more background on the company you're trying to create and a lot of fitting names will appear. It's business, it's product lines, it all helps.

The thing is, the name is just for the corporation. I won't be trading under that name.

FYI, I'll be selling cookies, ice cream, coffee etc.

Bingo, we have a product range. That should change people's responses for the better. These are fine foods, made to be enjoyed for their taste rather than nutritional value. Though not all deserts, they are small things you pick up on your way from and to somewhere.
Here's a few more questions that I can think of off the top of my head:
Is this a company that's just starting up or is it changing its name?
Is it a retailer of goods or a food service, such as restaurants?
Is it a chain of enterprises focusing on wider distribution or is it the small local shop that wants to set itself appart from the commercialism by differentiation?
Where will the shop(s) be located?
To whom do you intend to sell these products (what is your target market)?
What is your company's mission and what is it's vision?
How do you intend to promote your products to your target market?

Will think of more later, maybe I'll reply tomorrow, I have to study about product introductions in the market for a Marketing test early tomorrow morning.

Again, this is just a name for legal documents etc. I won't do business under it.

I'm sure Blind_IO will appreciate this....I was also looking at Firefly for inspiration..."Inara" and "Persephone". Hmmm...maybe I could use something from Battlestar Galactica...

If I were to use Firecat, what sounds better. Firecat Investments, Firecat Holdings, Firecat Industries, Firecat Enterprises

Vasataabenal. It sounds foreign, yes?

You will be hearing from my lawyers soon.<_<

I would suggest Firecat's Grill (yes I know you will be selling cookies and ice cream)

Here are some humorous ones which sound somewhat exotic, just makes sure whoever reads it doesn't know Latin:

Es Theca
Es Merda
Ego Constupro!

Thanatos Industries.
Chronos Enterprises.
Pretty much all the Greek gods have awesome names.

Krii Jaffa ? :p

Cheb, jaffa sanctuary where Oma De Sala helps people ascend

Orilla and Othala are the names of the Asgard inhabited Worlds. Neither exist anymore.

Oh, Urgo liked to eat and he liked to eat tasty cookies and made Teal'c drink a gallon of steaming coffee in one big chug. Yea I suggest "Urgo". He looks cute too.

Don't forget Ariel.
Yo-Saf-Bridge?

Firecat sounds unique. Anything Greek/French/Foreign sounds like its trying to hard, especially for a restaurant. There's tons of those pseudo-trendy hipster places around here...Axis, Fuel, Azure, Cyfer, blah blah blah....Names you'd expect of a character in a Matrix movie or some crap.

I like Divan... pronounced dee-von.

Thanks for the help guys. I had to get this done tonight. I went with something a little more traditional/sophisticated. Harbourfront Investments. I have a condo in Toronto there, so it has some meaning for me.

Shouldn't it be Harborside since you're in the US? :D
