Which provider? Cingular?

I personally like the RAZR, but it's costs are a bit high for a cell phone, and the fact that cingular will not offer the protection plan for the RAZR because the phone costs so much. As for cell phones, I like my Sony Ericsson T610 from T-Mobile that is now unlocked so I can switch to Cingular next month :-D.

on what criterium did you slim the choices down?
they're nothing alike, and at first sight nothing very special to only choose from these 2 options i think

but i'd go for the nokia. the simplest in use, and the best brand all around

i've had one eriksson, and am glad i have a nokia again. it's a joy to work with
i bought a 5140, and am just loving the beauty

I think the criteria (since he is in the US) was the phone company he wanted to use. Over here your company buys you a phone and the two phones he listed are only offered by one company, and are the best phones available from that company :-\. Damn the US cell phone industry for not letting us use whichever phone we want.

the razr is the cooler phone, but its very fragile.

i dont know much about the nokia, but it looks like its symbian, and with the expandable memory slot, u can have a lot of fun with it :)

they are completly different phones. if u like gadgets, get the nokia, if u wanna go for looks/style, get the razr.

main advantage for the nokia (and possible deciding factor), u can watch top gear on it

yeah exactly.. i am sticking to cingular.. and those were the most appealing phones out of there collection..

i wanna get the nokia.. the only type of phones i have ever owned are nokia's.. but i dunno.. that motorola razr looks cool

and how will i be able to watch top gear on the phone? lol that would be awesome

damn... the US cell-phone market sucks... over here in asia, most of the time, there is no sim-lock or phone-lock as we buy the phone and the simcard seperately

moto! its so much nicer! i would get one myslef it i had money. its very fashionable and flash to pull out

im not sure about this particular phone, but previous symbian nokia phones allows u to play .rm and .3gp files. just dl some software from the nokia site, and you should be able to convert videos to .3gp (although, to be honest, i cant remember is the convertor will convert .avi) when i had a symbian, i used to have a few simpsons episodes on it :)

the moto will be able to play .3gp aswell, but due to its limited memory space, you wont be able to fit much on it.

out of the two, i'ld get the moto. i didnt use or need many of the nokia's features, and i got bored of it after a while.

currently, im using a moto v600 (which the razr is based on) and its a great phone. really easy to use. only problem is that the camera does work anymore, probably due to a loose ribbon inside the phone. ribbon problems are common with flip phones.

yeah.. if i do end up with the razr.. it will be my first flip phone.. i have owned 4 nokia's lol..

and also.. i am worried that in a month of 2.. everyone will have a razr

that is true. already here, ive seen so many razrs. but like i said, the biggest drawback of a flip phone is the flip. it causes tension on the ribbon inside the flip, and is more likely to break.

the razr is very fragile. drop it, and its gone.

nokias are good and very easy to use, which made them very popular. but now other manufactures have caught up making them all pretty much equal user-friendly wise.

best thing to do is weigh them up

nokia:
+ lots of features
+ expandable memory
+ easy to use
- looks boring

Motorola
+ small, sleek
+ easy to use
- less features
- fragile
- no expandable memory

so on that, the nokia is the more practical choice... but the razr looks so damn cool

by the way, if u like to use the T9 predictive text on your previous nokias, u will miss it on the moto and they have their own kind of predictive text (iTap).

if possible, look at the SE K700i

^^ Please do not buy the SE K700... I know lots of ppl have it, but the colour of the buttons looks sooooo gay...

Wait a month for the K750i, it will also have expandable mem, and if you need it, a 2 MP Cam with autofocus....

Oh, and, the Razer isn't fragile... Lots of friends of mine have, pretty solid thingy!

the k750i is already out here, talked to this guy who sat beside me on the bus who bought it... it is selling for about 410EUR. and about the k700i, that was my previous phone and my advice is to stay away from it, the OS is unreliable and freezes most of the time and it laggs from time to time and the most annoying part is the joystick that after about half a year because very unresponsive. I have a Samsung D508, pretty good phone, only flaw so far is that the phone cannot ring and vibrate at the same time :(

Not available in our wonderful cell phone industry. Our phones usually are a year or two behind Europe and two or three behind Asia. :-( Damn cell phone companies and their bundling.

but since the US uses the 3rd GSM band, isn't it possible to just buy a tri-band GSM phone from asia or Europe and bring it back?

I think they have 2 different kind of bands... And the one that is used nationwide isn't supported with most european phones. Only some Motorolas can do that... And the other one doesn't exist all over the place...
At least, afaik. Please correct me...

I even thought about buying a 3g alias UMTS phone since all of them have good cams (even if I don't need one...) are Smartphones and feature expandalbe memory as well as mp3 players... And its just nerdy and I need it ;-)

But the Budles they are selling in Germany are pretty expensive...

It should theoretically be possible, since we can use the GSM phones we get here, in Europe (for $1 a minute), but the problem then becomes the high cost of the phone and importing of it :-(

because my Cousin in California had a SE P800 way before it came out in America, I helped him to buy it in Hong Kong and sent it by courier to him as soon as it was released here, then almost a year later, it was officially released in the US... then he just sold the P800 at a high price and got a P900

Buba... my siemens sx1 works fine here in the U.S. with both my Mtel (bulgarian) sim card and my Cingular (american) card, so I think they use the same standard bands.

Europe uses 900 and 1800MHz and USA uses 950 and 1900, IIRC... So, as the SX1 is tri-band (I had one that was stolen :( ), it uses the 1900 (IIRC, again)
