Need For Speed: Shift

Having spoken to someone recently who was involved in giving input & feedback on the game, he described it as the most realistic game he has ever played bar none. I'd hand on heart trust this guys feedback, I was skeptical beforehand, but I'm VERY excited now ...

:-o Did he ever play LFS? Can he compare the two?

Tracks: (real in bold)

Alpental
Autopolis International Racing Course
Ambush Canyon
Brands Hatch
Dakota
Ebisu Circuit
Glendale
Hazyview
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
London
Miytomi
Nordschleife (yes the 13 mile one)
Road America
Rustle Creek
Silverstone
Circuit de Spa Francorchamps
Tokyo
Willow Springs

9 real tracks, 9 fantasy ones. 66 cars, presumably all completely customizable except for the racing cars such as the DBR9 and the M3 GTR GT2. I also like how they have the 2009 Camaro, but only the 2006 concept of the Challenger.

OMFG

Even if it'll be arcadey, it'll still be great fun racing on the 'Ring. :D

Wait for the one in Gran Turismo 5 then. Once you drive in it... you'll shit bricks!

Doesn't looks that good imo, the graphics still doesn't look as good as Grid. Looks like it'll be a ProStreet 2.

Spa?!?! YES!

Also, strong car list. Nothing lame but covers all the good ones. FD & Mclaren F1 :D

No Ferraris? :(

Also, it has a nice collection of street cars; I don't care much for the street-cars-turned-race-cars. I think I'm right in saying that this will be the first "sim" with the Bugatti Veyron! :w00t:

Yeah those graphics don't look polished, but that's what development time is for. ;)

I really hope this game lives up to it's "sim" nature.

It looks 'pretty enough' for me, I just hope the mechanics and sound are solid now...

The car list is crap - most of the cars we have seen since NFS:Carbon, some even before!
And I'm sorry but if they're going to include old cars like the 200SX, Escort Cosworth and the Corrolla, which we've seen plenty of times, why don't they put in some proper classic supercars - Countach, F40, F355, Testarossa, Diablo, Esprit?

I'm kind of excited about the tracklist...Nordschleife FTW!

Game will be ruined with arcade like handling..

But Spa-Francorchamps & Nordschleife sounds very promising.

If it's as realistic as EA claims it will be, NFS: Shift sounds like its trying to take Gran Turismo head on as the most popular racing sim. That is quite a list of cars and tracks. Certainly not nearly as sizable as GT5 will be, but still strong. It makes me wonder why they are sticking with the NFS name if it will be so different.

I hope something good comes out of it, but I will remain skeptical until people get hands-on.

After endless over-hyped and under-delivering EA titles I don't expect good games from them anymore, much less great ones.

I'd love to see a racing game that has great physics and visuals, but it seems to be either one or the other. Mod-support/content updates by EA, league functions are a major concern for me and something NFS has been lacking. Please prove me wrong EA.

I very highly doubt they'll go that realistic. LFS/GT is fun for the "nerdy" racers and such, but to be honest there's a rather steep learning curve. I think most people find sims... well, not as fun.

I think games like GRiD did it perfectly -- it wasn't a sim, but it also wasn't an arcade racer. That's what Shift should aim for -- fun and realistic, but not a sim.

We don't know whether there will be full street versions of the cars. EA have said that they want to represent motorsport in an accurate light. That probably means we won't be able to drive any of these cars in a pure stock form.

Hopefully I'm very wrong.

TBH i don't wanna see any of the "uber-customized" cars in the game and i don't want the ability to turn SLR into a monster truck with 11 spoilers and 5 body kits. They should leave everything stock, including racing ones, maybe add 2-3 famous pro-tuned cars, like that 1000hp Skyline just for kicks.

+1. This game should be a better handling, prettier version of PGR4 or NFS HP2.

I'm more excited about Test Drive Unlimited 2. This time there will be off-road vehicles too!

Well, unfortunately for you I don't think that's the case, since they've made it clear that customization is a huge part of the game - EA want you to be able to completely racify everything.

We just don't know if we'll get completely stock cars or kind of "clubsport" versions to start with.
