And since i have absolutely no idea what the difference is between the 500 different types i'll have to ask you guys wheter or not it'll blow up my system ;)

My specs:
CPU:Intel Pentium 4 model 540J
Motherboard:Sunshine (GA-8I915PM versie 1.1)
RAM already in it: 512MB DDR400 CL3

Now i'm wodering if anybody knows if this will work:
1GB PC3200 DDR CL3 (GeIL, GE1GB3200BSC)

This is your motherboard:

* Four 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM sockets.
* Serial Presence Detect
* Support for single-sided or double-sided DIMMs (DDR 333 / DDR400)
* Support for up to 4 GB system memory
* Non-ECC RAM (ECC memory will run in non-ECC mode)
* Single and dual channel mode operation:
o Single channel mode with single DIMM, non-symmetrical population or non-identical DIMMs
o Dual channel mode with 2 or 4 identical DIMMs, populated symmetrically

So that will probably work :)
But I think you'll have to remove the old ram, because that is slower.

Edit: Maybe you should buy 2x512, than you can have dual channel mode.

ddr400 = pc3200 ram, it runs at 200 mhz and with the way ddr works (double data rate) you times that by 2 and that gives you 400mhz, hence the DDR400.

Unless you have money to burn, an extra 512mb wold be sufficiant in my eyes.
Or are you into heavy CAD programs\video editing, or huge photoshop stuff?

another 512 MB of DDR 400 should be plenty for now.

No, but i have been saving for some extra RAM and that just fits the budget ;) (not that i would mind keeping half of it though :p )

Yeah, that should work perfectly. Match up the clock rates and cas latencies.

Cool, i'll be ordering it ASAP
Thanks for all the help everybody :)

Always worked for me :p
You also have people who buy what they need, bt that's so boring, i rather think outside the box...... or i make stuff like that up to not sound like a n00b :p
