Okay, this is going to be a pretty stupid post, but if you don't like it: shut up,
and if you can help: thank you! :D

See here's the thing, I've been stuck with the same music for too long now
and I'm trying to find something new that I like. But the thing is that there is
so little I like, so most of the things I get a tip about falls outside of my
playlist. I just thought I could mention the type of music I'm looking for and
give examples of songs I like so you can understand my taste.

1. I make a lot of videoclips/short films and therefore often prefer instrumentals
and/or music which has a typical filmatic sound. (Such as Craig Armstrongs
songs, Rise and As if you said nothing.)

2. I'm not looking for typical film-music from big-budget movies, for example
Hans Zimmers score from The Rock, because it's all to well-known and clich?.

3. Music from top-something hit-lists is out of the question. As is all music
of genres like: Rock, Pop, Rap and R&B.

4. It has to be melodic, and pretencious is a word which could fit much
of the music I like (Craig Armstrongs- Escape, for example). Instruments
like violins, chello's and so on is often positive, even though some computer-music
can be sweet as well.

5. Ambient is a bit to abstract, but if it's quite melodic, shoot!

6. It has to remain some sort of masculine touch.

To sum it up let me mention some of the songs I've listened much to
in the recent past:

Johnny Cash - Solitary man (and hurt)
Craig Armstrong - (different songs, some of which I mentioned)
Depeche Mode / Mike Shinoda - Enjoy the silence
Paul Okenfold - Ready steady go ( I hate most of his other work, no techno please)
The Servants - Cells, intrsumental from Sin City trailer.

Ok, I hope you have an idea of what I like and I appreciate any tips at all

:)

Don't know if this will be to your liking, but you could check out Calexico, it's a Arizona based band, plays mariachi-style music with a twist.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Am?lie Poulin (Soundtrack, by Yann Tiersen)
R?yksopp
G?recki - Third Symphony
Sigur R?s
Mogwai
Air
Mum

Sigur R?s

Coparck are my favourite band at the moment - they have quite a lot of good instrumental moments. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find any decent mp3s of theirs on the net, so just MSN me or whatever and I'll send you some - same goes for anyone else who's interested - I love this band so much and I totally want to share their music.

***EDIT - Also, feel free to use my band's music ;) You'll be able to use your vids commercially that way :)

I second Sigur Ros. They are phenomonal.

Check out British Sea Power. They recently released a new album, Open Season which is pretty good, but The Decline of British Sea Power is my favorite of their two current albums.

Moby's I Like to Score album.

It sounds like what you are looking for is Four Tet.

Check out any of their albums, but I would highly recommend their album 'Rounds'. They will literally blow your mind.

check out rob dougan, more upbeat music, and his album has both songs with lyrics and just the instumentals.

You should have a look at Nightwish. They play melodic power metal with the addition of a symphony orchestra and seems to have strong operatic influences. I can't stop listening to it at the moment.

Going by your list (Mike Shinoda/Depeche Mode, Craig Armstrong, Paul Oakenfold) it sounds like you have a similar music taste to me so I strongly suggest you check it out. Once is their current album.

thenameisbam said to check out Rob Dougan as well. I'll second that motion :D

download the "best of thin lizzy" or something. the gutiaring in it is amazing. e.g. songs are waiting for an alibi or cold sweat or dancing in the moonlight.

he;s great

moody blues, pink floyd, jethro tull, neil young, the doors, the who, zepplin, tom petty, grateful dead, boston, and bad company

those are my favorite bands somewhat in order

try ian brown's solarized album
has a bit of mideast and gangsta mix

great for those dark moments
