No matter how much torque those diesels have, they're just not as lively as a petrol engine equivalent.

Well, I think I'm right in saying that there are some DOHC diesels in Europe that rev to 5500 rpm

If you want I can make another rev counter till 10000 rpm, and you wouldn't know. I can even tell you taht the idle is at 1600~1800 because of the highly tuned state of the engine.

Ambitious but rubbish!
You can't argue with 0-100km/h in 6.1sec and 314BHP. You can't argue with 730NM of torque either-Thats more than a freakin' E55AMG 
However you can find fault with its tractor like engine, the higher list price and the fact that you only get that 730NM only between 1,800- 2,600 rpm which sucks. For that alone, i'd go petrol
btw, I hope they get rid of the electric hydraulic braking system that has been malfunctioning on many E-Class's. Ours has been recalled Still a great car tho
