I just bought a new HT Omega Striker sound card to replace a creative that recently stopped working. Just before installing it, I ended up reformatting and reinstalling XP, so I shouldn't have any driver conflicts, but whenever I try to install the drivers, it comes up with a window saying "Please plug in the device and try again". The very first time I booted the computer, XP came up with the "new hardware detected" message and asked if I wanted to look for drivers, but I said no since I had the CD myself, so the computer definitely at one point recognized the device. Now, I cannot get it to do it again.

I have tried disabling onboard audio in the BIOS, but I get the same results. Any thoughts?

Have you followed the instructions that came with the card? You need to install the drivers before installing the card with a lot of hardware.

Deleting the entry in Device Manager, installing the drivers, and then doing a scan for new hardware sometimes fixes problems like this.
