Hey from all the car shopping I've done, I got a 350Z enthusiast edition. 18"'s LSD etc etc.
Never driven rwd before... I tried to do donuts in an empty lot but it was horrible experience.. cant counter steer fast enough when the tail kicks...

thats where you have to start, donuts are the most basic thing. practice makes the master perfect, so dont give up, practice your throttle control, go a bit easy in the begining so that the tail doesnt come out that quick. :)

You can have a look at a video/dvd called Drift Bible. You wont become a pro by just watching it, it just covers the basic drift thechniques in case you are not familiar with them, the rest is up to you. Although it is really basic, it still might have some new content for you :)

Don't waste your tyres if you can't afford to buy some new ones...

IMO it's stupid to do donuts to improve your 'handlingskills'...go to a trackday and see what the car can do, safely.

if he wants to learn powersliding and maybe even drifting he has to start with donuts, thats the 1st step in countersteering

+ you can buy some old tyres for practice

Don't think he's asking for drifting...what's the fun in that if you're an amateur.

And ehhh countersteer for donuts? IF your car has enough power it will do donuts almost automatically if you steer a little and floor it all the way. Donuts are easy. Doing the big donuts/drifting is a different case.

I hope its broken in. I guess it is now either way.

Do you have a track near wherever you live? There are probably inexpensive driver training courses you can take. . .

Just remember you can learn everything about a car without loosing control of the car. Just take it slow, think about your inputs and expand your knowlege before going all banzi on some ridgeline road.

Enjoy it. Once you start enjoying RWD, you'll never _ever_ want to have anything else.

Yeah, Don't toast your new motor by winding it out from the word 'go', break it in gently, you will be rewarded... anyway I would never willingly drive anything other than a rear or all wheel drive (I pick all over front) car...

go into a corner too fast, clutch in, brake too hard, rev it up, sudden jerk to the way you want to drift and drop the clutch at the same time, then opposite lock and throttle control.

On a track of course!

Don't be stupid and tell him to do that in his new car for the first time ina rwd car....

take a guess where i learned how to drift? the local development. but in all honesty, i dont recommend doing that. i could tell that people were calling the cops bc after i would leave, i would always see cops in the development.

also dont bother trying to drift in a parking lot bc its so easy.if you find a very empty parking lot, i would try using all the lines to set up a course. i would also suggest starting off in the wet. it is a lot easier to control the throttle in the wet. i do admit that the wet sucks if you are going all out bc the car is sooo much harder to control at the limit but its a good starting part. im not going to give any suggestions on where to do it bc ive only drifted one track.

Don't even try drifting on normal roads or parkinglots, have room for error, if you hit some lantarnpost or a curb your car is fucked and insurrance won't cover it.

Go to a trackday and LEARN to drift, don't try to be a driftstudent on the normal roads....that's just retarded.

whats the fun in drifting if you are an amateur? whats the fun in driving when you are an amateur? whats the fun in skiing when you are an amateur? whats the fun in sex when you do it the 1st time?... etc
i think you get my point :)

and yes countersteer for donuts. thats the entry level for powersliding/drifting. of course you can do donuts without countersteergin, thats the way most people do donuts. but the point is that you have to learn to make bigger and bigger circles, and for that you do need countersteer.

i dont think insurance will cover your damage on a track. and thinking that you cant get damage on the track would be wrong. im not saying he should learn drifting on the street. but 1st he needs to get to know his car. and for that, an empty industrial parking lot is perfectly fine. he wont go fast in the begining anyway (if he's smart), and a huge empty parkingplace gives you pleanty of room for error.

he wont learn driftin on a normal race track, he needs some driftparks like they have in japan. trying to drift on a normal track would mean he would have to go really fast, which isnt that safe either if you are a beginner.

ohhh more advice, when you feel the tail start to kick, just let go of the steering wheel and it will tun on its own. you will still need to turn it a little more so you dont spin but it makes it a lot easier to catch a slide.

if you happen to live in ohio i can show you some good resources

^That's just dumb. (edit: reply on pdanev)

On a track you have a wide open terrain and when you fuck up the corner you hit the gravel, and not a curb. A parkinglot is relatively small and you have to do it by night, you don't have the time (cops might find you) or the space to practise and learn.

No he?s got to learn to do donuts. I?m a girl and I can do them, any man that can?t do donuts should be ashamed. :p

And why would he donuts? To learn how the car behaves....not because he gets horny over the fact he is burning cash under his tyres....
