Winding Road's man from Japan, Peter Nunn, supposedly has it on good authority that Nissan's new Z-car is headed to Los Angeles this November for its official unveiling. According to Nunn's source, the 370Z looks "fantastic," despite it being a more evolutionary design.

The really interesting tidbit from Nunn is that the new Z will be shorter than the outgoing model by around four inches. That might curtail speculation that the spy shots we've seen of a chopped 350Z was a new rear-wheel-drive model that could resurrect the Silvia nameplate. Too bad. But the 370Z will be sporting the 3.7-liter V6 found in the Infiniti G37 coupe, a slightly wider track and, hopefully, will shed a few pounds from the outgoing model.

Nice to see they are trying to (possibly) save weight. Though I have to ask, what is the point in announcing that a car is going to be shown at the LA autoshow, or more specifically posting about it on this forum?

What's wrong with that? Looks sleek and modern (apart from those hideous chrome rims}.

Sleek and modern? Questionable.

Ugly? Definite.

Not exactly a catchy name. And I have to agree with No Boss, that pic is bad :yucky:

It won't look anything like that picture. Don't worry.

The engine size boost is nice. But the name sucks. 350z sounds so good. 370z, bleh :yucky:.

Yeah the name doesn't work too well. That rendering is freaking ugly haha. Hope it looks cool when they are done with it.

the name has always gone with the size of the engine ever since the first 240z back when it was a Datsun in the 70's. why would they change that now?

^ Yeah, tradition's important, of course. But when you say the name out loud, it sounds a bit too long or something.

Not asking for a name change. It is just the flow of the name doesn't really work. I guess I will just have to get used to it.

Tradition nearly killed off several automakers, and I doubt the average 350z buyer knows of the history of the nomenclature.

They make announcements like these well in advance to get people interested so they'll keep up to date with "leaked" photos and so on.

My point more of "who really cars about an announcement of an announcement on this forum." Just wait till the damn thing is shown at the show and post an article with actual facts, pics, etc. We don't need autoblog/left lane news to be completely reposted here.

Totally.

And will they make it un-ugly this time? The 350 was the nastiest thing to come out of Japan since eel porn and eye glue.
