If you want to hear the goddamn motor, PUT A LOUD EXHAUST ON, FOR PETE'S SAKE!

It's not that the exhaust is too quiet (you can hear it quiet well in the Autocar review above), it's that the cabin is so well insulated that you can't hear it. I think Ford's solution of a sound tube is ingenious, and not cheating at all: they've designed a sound insulation system that blocks out everything but the engine.

Disagree completely, if you want a luxobarge interior, you get a luxobarge and deal with the lack of sound. if you want a snarling muscle car, you deal with the cheaper and louder interior. The only other viable option is a louder exhaust, soundtubes and crap add weight, which is an unacceptable tradeoff. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it :D

Just rip out some of the sound deadening material under the carpets, saves weight and adds noise. Even if a bit unrefined, who gives a shit, M5 ROAWR LOUDER BETTER!!

Yes, unless you're a pussy.

Suggestion: spend a little more time to come up w a more original and clever reply rather than one someone gives when backed into a corner. You've lost my interest.

You've got to be fucking kidding me.
Here's a suggestion, if you don't want to say random things about problems none of us have any longer, then just fuck off, and don't give me that "intellectual" argument bullshit. Do you actually believe I care about your opinion? Know what, don't answer that.

Just piss off.

Edit: Man, your two posts are like a bouncy house of idiocy, I just want to keep coming back to jump on it and have some fun. But alas, not a child.

As with the previous M5, BMW will offer the new F10 M5 with a six-speed manual gearbox in the USA.

With plans to launch the F10 M5 in the USA this summer, BMW has confirmed that it will offer the 552bhp super saloon with a manual gearbox, as well as the standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. This was also offered as an option on the previous M5 (E60), but never came to Europe.

This will be a no-cost option for anyone buying the M5, but yet again BMW has no plans to offer this option outside of the USA.

Get your facts right, mate. BMW M was using gills in the wings long before Ford started using it.

Correct me if I am wrong but BMW wasn't making M cars in the '30s.

The thing about the USA is, people who do know how to drive one usually want one specifically. And are usually enthusiasts. I think this is a case of BMW listening to their buyers. So while manuals may only be 50-10% of the market, that 5-10% is not going away any time soon.

Exactly. The only reason BMW sells a manual is to cater to the U.S. demand for it.

Part of it is overall sales numbers I guess, since N.A. especially places like California are still among the biggest markets for BMW M, so even tho you would think manual would be offered in europe, maybe their overall sales numbers for the high end M models don't even come close.

I heard that the 6 spd getrag mated to the E60 M5 was not ideally suited for the V10 engine anyway and they just grabbed a standard box from the parts bin to satisfy those few who ordered the MT. I wonder if they will do the same here. I can't imagine BMW making the $$$ investment for creating a bespoke 6 spd MT that they will sell only to....1 market on the planet.

The reason for the manual in the E60 was actually the US market demanding it. You are right they used a 6 speed that was laying around (probably from the M3) and it didn't work very well with that engine. There isn't as much investment money wise as you might think they do have manuals in their other models all they have to do is alter the ratios and beef it up a little to deal with the engine in the F10. If they made the decision to offer it with a 6 speed from the beginning the overall investment would have been minimal since its all calculated on the computer anyway and would just need to have an extra mule or two for testing. Also keep in mind that its far from a cheap car so its not like they can't recoup their investment especially keeping in mind that US market is HUGE.

But remember, as big as the US market is, its still a minority of M5 owners (now a days) who actually want to MT, we both know a lot of M5 owners and sadly know this to be true.

M3s are catered to a pretty different (and usually younger crowd) and their sales of MT are usually much healthier, but the M5s are usually purchased by an older segment (makes sense because unless they are spoiled rich brats, they are bought by older men who have worked longer to make that kind of money, or they get them for their spoiled wives who don't want to mess about with an MT) because of the higher price point and the executive saloon market, vs the 'sports car' market that the M3 occupies.

I agree with this but you have to keep in mind that E60 got a manual because the US market really really wanted one so there seems to be a healthy enough demand for one. I just think that if they were going to offer one from the get-go then it wouldn't be all that expensive to develop since it would mainly be taking what you already have and modifying it a little. Taken into account that there is software that will basically do it for them I just see no reason not to offer a good manual.

I'm not quite where the hell those MT E60s are, of the 100 or so I've seen in this area...all of them have been SMG. You would think odds wise I would have seen at least 5-6.

They all crashed? I would think they would be pretty rare but then again you and I live in areas that are not ideal for manuals to say the least :p

the gearboxes all exploded.

Those that didn't are in the hands of people who will garage-queen them until they can turn up on Barrett Jackson 100 years from now as a RARE US ONLY OPTION and sell it for a bazillion creditpoundollars or whatever.
