Official: BMW M5 F10 Concept

A lot of people say it looks ordinary or just like an standard BMW 5-series M sport, but isn't the M5 all about being a wolf in sheep's clothing?

To be honest the M5 E60 didn't look much different than a 550i M-sport.

The only differences between the E60 M5 and the standard E60 5-series M sport, were the dual exhaust tips on each side, the gills in the front wings and the lack of fog lights.

Only difference being a M5 badge, probably exhausts.

You do realize that the M-sport package was created to make the normal cars look more like the M-series cars, right? The M5 came first, than the M-sport M5 bodykit thing for people who can't afford an M5, but want to pretend. :p

But yeah, M5's use to have much more of a sleeper factor in the past. I don't really care for the more attention starved bodykit versions of recent years.

Exactly. And it was the same story with the M5 E34

Yeah, I do realise that mate. ;)

But, my point is that the so called "BMW fans" don't seem to understand that an M5 should be a discreet looking beast.

I think the bodykit looks a bit stupid/2fast2furious but the wheels are nice. Why does the rear bumper have reflexes that high up? There are lights up there you know. Put them there instead. Or put them very close to the ground. Not in the middle. Looks daft.

Love it. This is what I like about the BMW (AMG to a point), subtlety is their forte.
I did like the E60 with the V10 but am happy to see what the V8TT offers.
My fav is still the e39 M5.

Drop that black M6 wheels, stick some multispoke M3 or E60 M5 rims on, and we're good.

I like it overall, but those silly red reflectors in the rear bumper would have to go. I love my E60 M5, but I would trade up to one of these. :)

F1 derived engine > Actual F1 engine?

Not that I don't love me as many cylinders as can fit in the engine bay, but I think a TT V8 will perform quite nicely.

But the noise man, the noise! And no, the BMW TT V8 has nothing to do with the F1 motor. At all.

EDIT: IIRC, if the M5 gets the same TTV8 as the M6 is supposed to be getting according to the BMW product rep I chatted up recently, it's gonna basically be the M3 engine with some turbos slapped on it.

Actually, the engine is lifted from the X5 and X6 M.

I don't like these parts of the front bumper:

Reminds me of an E46 M sport bumper which wasn't as good looking as the one on an M3:

The rear bumper looks a bit boxy too and the wheels are terrible.

I also prefer the old engine over this forced induction keep the greenpeace happy -engine. It's a fucking M! It's supposed to be a racing derived screamer not a lame sounding ecobox.

It's basically the same engine they use in a 550i but with twin scroll turbos instead of ordinary turbos. It's a great road car engine but it won't have the sound, the throttle response or the feel like the old M engines did. It shouldn't be the same to drive a tuned 550i as it is to drive an M5.

For me the M cars have lost their soul. Boohoo.

I think sure they are there for a reason. Aerodynamic reasons.
I don't believe it would have been too bad to end them smoothly like they did with the E46 M3. The main reason why they look like that is probably the looks.

Edit: and yes I know the M3 CSL had separate flappythings there... didn't look the same as the f10 M5

You were saying?

Never really liked the BMW V10's exhaust much to be honest.

A 550i engine with bigger turbos is a bit different than those highly tuned V8's. I'm not saying it's the wrong way to use FI engines but I don't like how they are basically using the same engine as they use in their ordinary cars. I see only two reasons for that: cost cutting and lower emissions. If they made the engine ground up to be a FI M engine I would approve (like the MP4-12C engine).

Aaaand the F40 sounds lame compared to the naturally aspirated F50. ;)
