Okay, I hate my PC -- time for a new one

Okay, so back to the factory OC'ed cards. Are they really worth paying more when I could OC via drivers? It doesn't seem like it.

Check out these eVGA price / clocks:

$260: 600/1800
$290: 650/1900

And from what I've read, either way you need an aftermarket cooler for it to be more quiet + better cooling for OC'ing.

One of the Gigabyte cards is running @ 750/1800. Not sure on price. Newer versions of the 8800GT do come with a much larger fan, apparently http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=247420.
Leadtek, XFX, Zotac and eVGA all use the bigger fans and others are catching on.
Thanks for that link! That will make it a lot easier to see which of the cards on Newegg has the newer cooler.

EDIT: Based on the pictures, the XFX PVT88PYDQ4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail is the only one with the new larger fan. It's only $270 while being a little overclocked, so I think I just found my new video card.

Once it gets in stock, I'll cancel my order with Dell. If Dell ships first, so be it as I can deal with the older fan and such in exchange for saving $60.

Sorry man, I didn't mean to delay your new PC :|
lol, not your fault. It's an awesome deal, but Dell selling stuff when they have no clue when they'll get more in stock is pretty dickish. I sent off an e-mail tonight and we'll see what they have to say later today.

Same thing happened to me with Amazon. They had the Logitech MX Revolution for $36.99 with a $30 MIR, a killer deal for Black Friday. I ordered one immediately but two days later I received a cancellation email stating it was a price mistake. A week later they didn't remove the charge on my credit card, so I emailed them about it. I was then told that the first email was sent out in error and that I should get the mouse in a week. It never came, so I asked them to either ship the mouse or cancel the charges. They finally decided to ship out the mouse!

Sometimes a little patience works out in the end, it all depends.

Yeah, but they could stall forever, plus, their tech support sucks ass.

This order was supposed to be a Christmas present (to myself, lol), that's why I ordered it over a month before Christmas to allow plenty of time to get here. I understand the immense demand and lack of supply for this type of video card, but this is getting ridiculous. You guys said 1-2 weeks, but your current ETA is over a month after my order.

Do you guys actually expect for it to ship on the 26th? Or is this just another automated weekly bump back and this could continue on for weeks? I can deal with it getting here slightly after Christmas (I can make an IOU for the person), but any later than that and I will have to cancel my order.

This is so frustrating. I've done business multiple times with you guys before (I currently own 3 Dell computers), but after my experiences with this order, I'm really tempted to never do business with you guys again.

I LOL'd. Guess they don't want your money. Would have been a nice deal, though...

Due to FTC regulations, they have to ask for my consent as whether to continue or automatically cancel my order due to the long ass delay. Consumer protection I guess.

Hence their response.

Yay, video card is in stock! Bought it. Should be here the day after Christmas or so I assume.

Woot!

Yeah, got it mid-Friday. Just finished doing Windows Update, drivers, and Firefox. ^_^

What kind of HDD's are you using?

  • 500GB Seagate SATA (new as of yesterday)
  • 400GB Seagate SATA (oooold, got it before it came out in stores, heh)
  • 320GB Seagate SATA
  • 250GB Maxtor SATA (meh, old, shitty, rarely used)

Congrats Viper :D

Congrats Viper :D
Thanks!

1080p playback is lovely and I can transcode a Top Gear episode for my iPod (H264) in 15-20 minutes rather than the 60 it took me on my old CPU.
