It'd be pretty cool to see some of the old Top Gears from the 70s 80s and 90s, is there any place on the internet where we can find em or somebody who has em and can put em up?

don't worry Volvo_S70, i'm happy you're a member ... the more the merrier :)

Old Top Gear was more "pure motor program", this the "new" program is more an entertainment show of new cars than a pure motoring program, much due to JC and his humor ... tho the text writers for the show has a lot to do with it ..

There was, it was presented by, William Woolard, Chris Goffy and even Noel Edmonds. In fact, Noel was the first to try what Clakrson was the first to get away with on TG. Noel slated some car, saying it was rubbish. But the car maker complained and the BBC made him say sorry. Later, Clarkson did it and got away with it. And it set a bench mark.

The old TG was produced by, John Bentley. Who also presented some of it too. He hired Clarkson. Later, he left and started Fifth Gear on Channel 5, but has now handed producing over to James Woodruff (who used to work on TG) and now John presents on Fifth Gear.

Thx, glad to be here  I've been a fan of Top Gear for a long time without even knowing it, watching various clips from the internet with that 'curly haired British guy'(back when it was all there)

I saw and old old old top gear clip a while back mazda rx-7 & a porsche comparaison. looked like the 80's

Yeah, the problem with getting these old episodes on the web is that you would have to find someone who had them on video tape or something, then they would have to be willing to capture, encode, upload, etc. But to me, it sounds like it wouldn't be worth it since the show wasn't the same before JC came along.

I remember the old Top Gear, i preferd Clarkson then.
He was Younger, funnier and madder.....

When he left it went like what fifth gear is now, crap.

That so called history of Top Gear is a travisty, not one mention of John Bentley, he practically invented Top Gear, why isn't he mentioned? How do you correct that stupid encyclopedia thing?

I've met him and he's a fantastic guy, I could listen to him talk for hours, he could say anthing, just read the phone book out. I know he's now on 5th Gear, but is he on the radio? He should be.

I found Bentley to be mildly interesting on fifth gear, maybe when they move to the 1 hour show I'll get into it more.. His presentations seem a bit stark and sterile, a bit drab

Thats because his are, factual. You learn something from them.

IMHO information, like how fast a Enzo can get round the track at Dunsfold, when driven by an out of work racing driver, is not important or worth knowing. Even if you had an Enzo, it would still be a useless bit of info.
