Other Random Car Sightings [Photo Required]

So the crown Vic has to belong to a "Beh?rde" (don't know the english word :( ) Can't see where that would fit in, they usually drive German Cars, at least around here...

Best one I've seen was an Augsburg-Registered, beaten up, Audi A4 B5 with full Size Plates only saying "A - 8" :)

Looks like the Crown Vic is armored.

Authority?
Authority, Administration, something like that. Basically anything from local municipalities' park keepers to the parliament's car pool - every car registered to any branch of government gets these special plates (except for unmarked cop cars, of course). Even the "company car" of our University's dean has them - as has the lowly VW pick-up truck the University uses to haul office furniture from one building to another.

Interesting. What signifies that it's a government vehicle then?
The standard license plate format is XX-YY 1234, XX being a one-to-three letter code for the county, the rest being random (or vanity) letters, then number. A government plate has the format XX-1234, XX being either a county code (see above) or a code for some other part of the government (the states for example have their own code, which is used for some cop cars), or a zero for diplomatic vehicles. But that's a diplomat's plate then, not a government plate.

EDIT: DanRom just informed me that this naming scheme has been abandoned for vehicles registered after 2007. Even if this seems to be well-researched, our Uni dean's A8 is younger than six years and has a government plate.

I have to correct myself, I just read the wikipedia-article about embassy plates in Germany (only german), those look exactly the same like the former public authorities plates, except they always have three to five digits beginning with a 9 (HH-900 to HH-99999) so it's an embassy car. As already stated it looks armored so I guess it belongs to the US-embassy.

And anyone interested in the details can read them at the Wikipedia page about German plates. It's German though, the English version doesn't go that deep...

@ Eye-Q: I guess it belongs to the US consulate, not the US embassy, but that's only a minor point...

A minor but decisive point: Embassys get diplomatic plates.

Having worked in a consulate in the states before, i can verify that they often own armored cars for the consuls and other important figures. Also, consular plates are different than normal diplomatic plates in the states as well. Might be why this car that these unique plates and not diplo ones.

A piece of history:

That is the very car that won the 1986 Monte Carlo Rally, driven by Toivonen.

Bentley with manufacturer plates from Michigan.

And this awesome old Audi Coupe, which seemed to be in perfect condition.

Porsche 911 targa

[edit]
Volvo Amazon with swedish numberplates - since he drove on the A7 southwards I'm pretty sure he took the Storeb?ltsbroen, I don't think he took the ferry from Oslo to Kiel.
