Actually that switch does happen, but it takes a while. Even typing this, I'm not "pre-thinking" it in German, it sort of comes naturally so to speak... When I spent half a year in NZ back in school I am very much certain that my thought process started running in English after a month or so.

It’s funny when your brain farts and mixes in a word from another language that works phonetically, but has a different meaning.
