Apart from my raging hatred for the program directors of the German public tv stations covering this, 2024 has been an absolute hoot imo!
Paris being Paris: can’t do shit small, gotta go big. Clean up the river for 1.5 billion € for a few open water swim events that could’ve just gone into some lake or whatever? Sure! Having no plan B if things don’t work out? Mais oui, c‘est la France!
Remco going double gold on both road bike categories this close after Tour de France - insane!
Also I just learned about triathlon mixed relay and was completely confused how they do 3 disciplines with 4 athletes. Then I found out it’s a ridiculously short sprint distance and all 4 athletes do all 3 disciplines (300m swim, 7km bike, 1.8km run), effectively going 4 supersprint-tris back to back to back to back.
And they’re all regular tri people (so more trained to 100km+ total distance) - how has that event not been kidnapped by someone specializing in that short sprint thing, yet? Too obscure?
Also also: team USA #1 fan completely outside any competition gotta be snoop.
