I just got this idea, so I'm not quite sure how well it would work...

anyways, there are categories (compact, subcompact, sport, ect), and for each country, pick the best current cars from that country. The car can be one that is slated to come (i.e. 2010 ford taurus). Each person picks a country, and countries can be repeated.

I'll start

Country of my choice: United States
Subcompact: Ford Fiesta
Compact: Ford Focus (Cobalt is slightly worse...)
Mid Size Saloon: 2010 Ford Fusion
Full Size Saloon: 2010 Ford Taurus
Luxury Saloon: Cadillac CTS
Performance Saloon: Cadillac CTS-V
Sports Coupe: Pontiac Solstice GXP
Supercar: Corvette ZR1
Truck/SUV/Van: Ford F-250

Feel free to suggest other categories. If the country you choose doesn't have a car to fill one of the categories, just fill "none" in.

Country of my choice: Japan
Subcompact: Honda Jazz
Compact: Honda Civic
Mid-Size Saloon: Nissan Altima
Sports Coupe/Roadster: Mazda MX-5
Supercar: Nissan GTR
Truck/SUV/Van: Toyota Hilux

Country of my choice: Italy
Subcompact: Fiat 500
Compact: Alfa Romeo 147
Mid Size Saloon: Alfa Romeo 159
Full Size Saloon: Lancia Thesis
Luxury Saloon: Maserati GranTurismo
Performance Saloon: Maserati Quattroporte
Sports Coupe: Ferrari 599
Supercar: Lamborghini Murcielago
Truck/SUV/Van: Fiat Strada / Iveco Massif/ Lancia Phedra

United States
Subcompact: Ford Fiesta
Compact: As much as I hate to say it, America's best compact car is the Focus...(ugh...)
Mid Size SEDAN: Hey, I LIKE the Lincoln MKZ!
Full Size SEDAN:
Performance SEDAN: Either CTS-V or Pontiac G8 GXP (wonk wonk Australi-- STFU!)
Sports Coupe: Pontiac Solstice Targa-topped Coupe or Camaro (Was going to say Tesla Roadster, but I knew I'd get shit for it. :p )
Super car: ZR1
Truck/SUV/Van: I really dig the new Dodge Ram...I've always liked the Cadillac SRX...but I gotta say Jeep Wrangler.

Country of my choice: Japan
Subcompact: Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit but really depends on what size and price you wanna pay - Cheaper and smaller goes to Yaris, entering compact class pricing and size would be the Fit
Compact: Either the 2009 Toyota Corolla or 2009 Honda Civic but the Civic styling looks like sci-fi so the crown goes to the 2009 Corolla
Mid Size Saloon: 2008 Toyota Camry SE V6 [Hey, it beat out the Accord in some instances and 5.7s 0-60 MPH is impressive]
Full Size Saloon: 2008 Toyota Avalon [Really, i don't know many Full-Size Sedans in Japan that aren't entering luxury class]
Luxury Saloon: 2008 Lexus LS460
Performance Saloon: 2008 Lexus IS-F [At least they tried]
Sports Coupe: 2008 Infiniti G37
Supercar: 2008 Nissan GTR
Truck: 2008 Toyota Tacoma - What can you say, its a cheap but value packed truck with durability!
Van: 2009 Toyota Sienna - Best value in its class
SUV: 2008 Toyota Landcruiser/Lexus LX570
