Found this gorgeous Viper on eBay that has the same wheels as me but are powdercoated black. Holy fuck does it look badass. I am sooooo doing this! (This is the only modification to the car that I have been seriously considering all along)

2003 to 2006 rims but the same color car:

Agreed. Those wheel are the way to go. Though if you darken the rear lights like that I will kill you. :p

Haha, no way. I don't really like the window tint either.

And as a reminder, here's the chrome rims:

Black rims are badass, but I would at least consider the fact that the slightest damage will show as bright silver scrapes on a black background.... I regret mine and they have been delegated to winter.

Yeah, that would suck but hopefully I wouldn't scratch them and if I do, then I can just do a bit of touch up probably.

Keep a bottle of nail polish or touch-up paint in the color handy for on-the-spot repairs. Even better: encourage your GF to wear the same color on her nails, con someone to compliment the color on her, then "borrow" it whenever you need it. You won't have to buy it ever again.

With black rims that means getting a goth girlfriend. I approve.

why spend money on nice wheels, only to paint them black and hide their design?

black cheap wheels are awesome, a nice rim painted black is a waste imo

Those are stock rims and I don't want black steelies. :p

Black wheels means you can be lazy and leave the brake dust on them for longer between washings.

I didn't really find that to be the case, black shows dirt quite well. One thing I didn't think of is part of my problem is the rims I bought stick out beyond the tire quite a bit, so even the slightest contact with anything leaves a big gash... the new car's tires have sort of extended sidewalls that look like they might protect the rims a bit. If your rims are not like that, or if you don't go around driving into curbs (never done it in my life except with those specific rims.... 3 times), it may not be so much of a problem. And it looks awesome.

I can be lazy either way. My Mustang's front wheels are soooo dirty. :p

A friend of mine has been toying with the idea of selling his '08 black coupe if you're not solely looking at rag tops. I know he has a Moton suspension setup (unsure of which package) for road racing, a set of HREs and some slight power mods. Otherwise I'll have to let you talk to him if it's something you're interested in pursuing.

Thanks but I already bought the blue one further up the page. That was the color and style (convertible) that I was set on. I'm just waiting on shipping. :)

Just an FYI powdercoating impairs wheel rigidity slightly. But if you only do it once, it won't be a problem. Some people go overboard and change their wheel color every few months.

But most importantly, this is only dangerous in really cold weather and snow. In Seattle you should be fine.

Black rims instead of the chrome will also stop you looking like a second rate pornographer or a guy in the midst of an early midlife crisis*.

*And before anyone says anything, I am enjoying mine just fine thank you very much**!

**While watching second rate pornography.
