Firstly few photos from summer. Straight after detailing, these were meant to appear in for sale section of Finnish Porsche forum. That never happened, the car developed such a bad misfiring it actually blew the middle muffler on overrun. Selling it in condition like that didn't make sense, so I left it to my parents yard for few months.
After mixture adjustment mentioned few posts ago it felt like a different car. Power was back, throttle response was sharp. New muffler killed most of over the top exhaust sound, and that made me realize the valve train clatters a lot. Adjusting the valve clearances didn't cause much difference in power delivery, but now it's pretty quiet engine most of the time. There is still one rattle coming at around 4000 rpm, it might be worn gears in ignition distributor?
So a happy post? Not totally. After the car became drivable again, I put the Mazda MX-5 to winter hibernation and started to daily drive the 924. On most occasions it has been quite happy motoring. All 125 horses might be back in action.
Handling was improved a bit after front anti roll bar was properly attached to the body, so now at its best I can already imagine how it feels to drive a good 924.
There is still much work to fully reach that stage, however. I've spent some time fiddling with the electrics, but they still cause problems. On Sunday evening I drove 140 kms around pitch black roads. Next day all driving lights failed to work. Apparently one connector next to the light switch had melted.
Then I spent few days driving more proper sportscar made in Ingolstad:
It was quite a jump back to the 924, but the Porsche felt alive and happy. I drove it home and parked it in typical Audi driver fashion. When I tried to correct that, the 924 refused to start. All the electrics had gone: no hazard lights, no fuel pump. Nothing. Being mechanical engineer, I am not happy with electricity related problems. So I opened the bonnet, to mostly check if the battery is still there. It was. As were both cables. I closed to hood and tried to start: the little four cylinder coughed back to life and everything was fine. WTF.
