I was looking for pictures of the Porsche 928 and I came across this article... don't think I've seen this before

btw... what happened to the scoops thread?

So... A four-seater that uses the same platform as Cayenne, looks very similar to 911? Why can't they make it look a bit more different from 911? Cayenne could've looked so much better if it didn't try to look like 911, and looks like this goes down the same category.

How old is this article, btw? It says "forthcoming off-roader" in the end of second paragraph, so I take it isn't from yesterday's paper?

Stop posting pics like these as "concepts" or "soon to be" cars.

Read the text beneath the picture:

"An artists impression of how the 928 MIGHT look..."

It's totally useless, I could have made that and it would be equally misleading :|

Doesn't look good. Engine at the front in a Porsche? Doesn't sound nice. The Cayenne has it, but it isn't a real sports car. Four seats in a Porsche? The Cayenne has that too, and that's exactly why it isn't a sports car.

If they plan to go for the big market, they'll be producing competitors for the Fiat Punto in ten years. That's just about it for the great Porsche heritage.

That's sounded really stupid CamoN...

Why the hell can't a Porsche have two small seats in the back and still be a sportscar?
The 928 is a great car and it having 4 seats makes it even cooler...

Try looking at the back of 911. There are two small seats as well :)
Only "track" versions like GT3 have rollcage there.
And original 928 has engine up front. It's still a great car. Not a 911, but still a Porsche.

err... how old is this? it says it would compete with the Ferrari 456GT that had been stopped a while ago and replaced by the Ferrari 612. plus i dont really like the idea of a 4 seater Porsche.

Well, ofcourse it can, but I just don't like the idea. I'm afraid they are trying to get out of the Ferrari/Aston-Martin -circle and go after the big bucks with MB and BMW. The signs are already there. The new Boxster with a hard top (I forgot the name) will be the new cheapest model available, and now the 928, which reminds me of a sedan. In my mind, they shouldn't do that.

And don't get me wrong. I like BMW and their efforts in making the fastest family cars on the planet. The true German work horses which are there to move people from A to B and give everybody the ultimate driving experience in between. However, Porsche shouldn't go there. Jeremy and Richard concluded this quite nicely in the review of the M3 CSL: "It surely is BMW at it's absolute best, but is it as good as Porsche at it's absolute best?" And they were right. It itsn't.

When I think about Porsche, I get an image of very expensive, very exclusive, very fast (if not the fastest) and very honest sports cars which are only driven by the people who really know what kind of a car they have, and have some respect for the vehicle. That shouldn't be changed.

I loved the 928 would be nice to see them on the road again.

A V8 at the front sounds like a proper car to me anyway!!

Yeah this article looks fairly old...

Calls the Cayenne a forthcoming model and as previously mentioned, says it will go up against the 456.

Who cares I say bring on the new 928!

I have no idea... this pic came across when I was trying to get the shape of 928's headlights for my LFS skin

well... it was an article never posted here before and you guys should be lucky I even bothered to share it for you guys ;)

That picture looks more like the new Cayman than anything else.

The only other new Porsche that's coming out is a front-engined V8, yeah, kind of like a 928... but it's a 4-door. Probably priced/powered to compete with the Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes CLS, that kind of thing.

o yeah i seen that design in a magazine. i dont like it at all, too long.

a porshe i am lookin forward to is the GT3 of the new 911

thats going to take awhile... you have to wait for the Turbo, boxster and all the varients like the 4wd one and so on... plus the current GT3 is excellent... esp the RS
