Porsche To Make A SEDAN

Looks pretty neat.

at least JC can't complain about the styling

provided it stays true to what Porsche is all about that it's fine by me (the Porsche board will be happy to hear that no doubt).

and hey, if it sells well enough, maybe they could do themselves a world of good and kill off the Cayenne

no no nooooooooooo

looks like the cls a bit, but thats the smallest problem i c. 4 door saloon, next thing you know its gonna be a wagon, followed by a minivan :?

the marketing department @ porsche went nutts

edit: the name is ridiculous as well, sounds like one of those crappy pacifc rim car names they had @ tg last season

I don't think so. When Maserati made a sedan, they set out to make a supercar with four doors, that's what I picture the Porsche being similar to. I very much doubt Porsche will end up being like Vauxhall/Opel.

I don't see how the marketing department went "nuts". As a car enthusiast you might not like the fact that Porsche makes an SUV and you might think it's ugly, but they have sold a shitload of them... at least in North America.

The same is true for the Boxster...

I personally like the look... it has a similar face to the Carrera GT. But do I see suicide doors???

Yeah i noticed the suicide doors.

Combine that with the curving front and (relatively) angular high rear, it looks a bit like a porsche-ized RX8.

I quite like that red one

you're likening the Boxster to the Cayenne???

The Cayenne should never have happened, it's just not right, the fact it's pig-ugly (no offence to pigs out there) just makes it a bigger slap in the face.

The only positive of the Cayenne is the funding it has provided Porsche

Yes, exactly. Porsche is in the business of making money, not making a few petrol heads here and there satisfied. I'm saying Porsche was right in introudcing that car and if this turns out to be like the Cayenne, it'll be the right move.

it's not about making petrol heads satisfied, it's about being true to your history and origins, about standing by what your brand stands for and means. And that is the reason the Cayenne should never have been - it's a slap in the face to the marvellous history and tradition of Porsche. Whilst I can understand it being done from a pure cold hard business-case perspective, that doesn't make it right.

What would you think of a Ferrari 4WD?

pdanev is correct, it kinda looks like a CLS (shapewise) but it really goes wrong at the end   :? Gee Porsche are fireing out of the gates with all these new models, kinda like Mercedes is...don't know what to think :|

I'm not exactly sure if Porsche can pull of a luxury uber saloon car to rival the likes of S-Class, Bentley, Quartraporte (mind the spelling)

What does that mean? A quarter of a door? Quattroporte isn't that hard.

Oh how very sorry I am :( I don't know how im gonna sleep tonight

The only official Porsche "photo":

I've said it before and I'll say it again...the Panamera will stay true to Ferdinand Porsche's vision of the perfect car: An exciting, powerful, fun-to-drive car that is practical enough to live with every day and reliable enough to continue being a daily driver.

Practical? Of course! Exciting? It's entirely Porsche-engineered, so, uh, DUH. Reliable? Porsche's in-house cars (911, Boxster) are continually the highest-ranked vehicles in their classes according to JDPA, so that says something. Ignore Cayenne and its horrible ratings...that's VW's fault (much to my chagrin).

Frankfurt IAS, here I come! :D :D :D

im not a marketing expert but the way i see it, is that porsche keeps going down the ladder from purely sportscars to more everyday/common cars, like suv, 4door saloon, and god knows what will follow. if i were i porsche customer, i'd think that the wide range of models (especially non-sportscar ones) are killing the exclusivity of the brand. hence i might switch to some other brand, that is truly and purely associated with only proper sportscars. and if the keep enlarging their product range, in the long term that wont be very good imo. sure, they might sell shitload of saloons in the next 2-3years, but imo, in the long run they will loose more customers with strategies like this.

a side note: porsche is made for car enthusiast and petrolheads. the brand's selling point is performance, history, motorsport, sportscars.

Precisely. So why complain? The Quattroporte proves that a four-door car can be a supercar in disguise...why can't Porsche do the same?

Again, Ferdinand Porsche's vision was never "Rear-engined two-door sports coupes." It was as I said above...practical, reliable, and exciting. The Panamera exudes all of these qualities.

And finally, the name: "The new car?s name is derived from the legendary Carrera Pan-Americana long-distance race."

There is history and pedigree behind the name, just like Quattroporte or 911.
