Post a pic of yourself

Here I am, severely overdressed driving my Mazda "I'm so happy I could do a powerslide" Miata during the Skip Barber shootout.

^Allan McNish is Jim Russell.

But I did get an interview with Bob Varsha.

EDIT: Gonna hog the thread a tiny bit more.

Go MX-5 GO! Yes, they can (and do) powerslide... I wonder why my limited slip differential behaves oddly sometimes...

While we're posting trackday pictures...

Mine's slower! :p
Yay, coco-vroom!

Oh yes, we got very sideways a couple of times. The BFG tires grip like hell but they let go a little suddenly on the MX-5 when on the power really hard. They are more progressive on the F2000. I think it's the relative side wall size. They were 5-speeds so we had the open diff and not the Torsen.

How's the Lancer on the track Coco?

It's not a Torsen anyway, if it's the dumb Suspension Package one. It's a SuperLSD, which is a combination of gear based (like the Torsen) and conical friction plates. Unfortunately, the friction plates easily glaze. That's what happened to mine, and it results in a variable LSD, that sometimes works (when it's relying on the gears) and sometimes doesn't quite work right (when the now-glazed friction plates would take over).

Well, unpredictable drivetrain behavior, which is what I have now, is bad. An open diff is at least predictable - it behaves like an open diff 100% of the time. This seems to randomly switch between open diff behavior and LSD behavior. One lap, powering out of corner 7, the LSD will be working and I'll be able to accelerate quite well. The next lap, I'll try to accelerate and the back end will step out. It's not extreme, but it means I'm losing acceleration and working harder to keep the car moving correctly. It's really annoying. I'd rather have an open diff, because at least then I'd know what I had.

I've been pondering replacing it with one of the clutch type differential options (which are designed for track use, so can endure my driving behavior), but I'm not sure I'll even keep the car, so...

Oh, and at least some 5-speeds have had the SuperLSD, as the MS-R cars have it. :)

Apparently I got caught on 'film' today whilst making my belated rounds.

Locals: If you know where that is, don't mention it.

I will be happy when this stupid rewiring project is totally over. :(
