Post a pic of yourself

That looks like only a Type S to me...

Is that a Moonsorrow tee? One of my favourite bands right there...
It is. One of three I have in tribute to the band that made the Album Of The Decade.

HELLS TO THE YES. Driving to the Millau Viaduct in a Civic Type R...that's exactly what I want to do (once I learn how to drive manual that is).
As the others suspected... it is a Type S.

And, brace yourselves...

...are you all bracing yourselves?...

...diesel.

Why, you may ask, did I spend 19 grand on a diesel, and then post about it on this forum where diesel is supposed to be vilified and hated in much the same way as Lewis Hamilton is from far too many corners?

The maths are quite simple. A Type R - or, at least a Type R that's been chipped so it can outrun the MkVII grandad-wagon the way it always should have done, is for hooning round the N?rburgring. I am never going to hoon round the N?rburgring. I would crash, probably with fatal consequences. I freedly admit that I am not the next Lewis, as I found out the last time I went carting. Neither am I the next Nick Heidfeld, the next Adrian Sutil or even the next Gioirgio Pantano. The way I handled that cart, Jean-Denis D?l?traz would have been more my level. So, what I will spend most of my time doing is thundering up and down motorways. Possibly in Germany. Honda tell me that the Type S diesel is only restricted because if it wasn't, it would outrun the Type R, which will do (only?) 140 mph. They say the Type S diesel will do 127 mph, which let's face it, in a country where the number of speed cameras is increasing faster than the number of murderous chavs, is fast enough. Except I know that it'll do 128 mph. I like Germany.

So, what I have parked on my drive is, to quote a certain J. Clarkson, a paraffin stove. Had I spent more on the Type R, I would not have a paraffin stove but a car that's not quite as fast as it should be (though certainly a few thousand light years away from "hopeless" as he said in series 9) which I'll never use for its primary purpose and which will cost me twice as much in fuel and insurance for none of the benefits. Or, I could have had a MkVII Type R instead, which does have the right performance, but every time I looked out my window I'd be thinking "Grandad's come to visit!"* Instead, I look outside and see, as quoted in the New Car prices in TG magazine, a spaceship.

Last year, that spaceship took me to an all-day gig in Oberhausen as part of its Proper Test Drive. This year, it took me on a trip right round the perimeter of France, visiting all the tiny countries along the way, then to Italy and Slovenia for Metal Camp, and then to Wacken. It will not, however, be taking me round Iceland - I'll unfortunately be stuck with a hire car, because Smyril Line isn't coming back from Iceland on the day I'd need it to.

* OK, I haven't had a living grandad since 1995, but you get my point.

^ You made a good choice there IMO. The Type-R isn't the kind of car for me either. If I was buying a Civic, I want a Civic. If I was wanting a fast hatch, I'd get an S3. I'm not a big fan of hot hatches. And I actually prefer the looks of the Type-S anyway.

Would you then start throwing up if I said the first thing I intended to do was put the Type R grille on it? I've always thought that looked better than the mono-brow headlights it has now.

Then I started looking at this forum more and more and thought that might be considered ricing.

Here's an odd thought for you all. Should the European Civic be taken to the US, badged as an Acura, and sold alongside the rather toned-down Civic that is sold there, and which we only get as the shrub-hugging hybrid?

^ No I'll give you that. :p The Type R grill is a lot better than a monobrow - never have liked that.

That would be nice, but I believe that Acura has moved on from small hatchbacks; the TSX is the smallest of the line. The RSX was a joke compared to the Integra.

True. Acura purposefully got rid of the RSX because they wanted to move more upmarket, so it's not going to come back out with another hatch meant
for young people.

Canada gets the CSX, which is even smaller than the TSX. It's re-badged Civic basically.

The RSX was a joke compared to the Integra.

False. Maybe it was too expensive for what it was, but I don't see how it was a joke, especially given it was still the Integra outside North America.

Civic is actually a re-badged CSX, CSX was designed in Canada for Acura and Honda liked it so much they made it the next Civic...at least that is what wiki says.

Perhaps, I don't know which came first.

The CSX is full of epic fail to me anyway... nobody needs a $30,000 Civic.

Honda should never have called the MkVIII Civic a Civic anyway; after all, Ford decided the Focus was so different from the outgoing Escort that they had to give it a different name. Honda should have come up with something sharp... and Japanese.

The Honda Katana. That would have done just fine.

[sarcasm]But it has an Acura badge so it must be better than a civic[/sarcasm]

I've told some people that they just bought an expensive civic and my god, I thought they were going to kill me.

I was kind of fine with the previous Acura EL. Sure it was just a Civic, but it wasn't that much more expensive. It was sorta an extra trim on top of what Honda offered on the Civic.

But the CSX is just too damn expensive if you add the flappy paddles and satnav and all that. I think it's even more than $30,000 fully optioned.

Me being a cheesy git just before our Cup Day cocktail party today:

I think I did okay with the race wear considering I woke up this morning at my boyfriend's place and thought 'ohhh fuck, I have a cocktail party to host and I don't know what I'm wearing.'

Definitely more fun than being at the race course though, we didn't have to fight crowds and wind and portaloos, and I got to kick off my high heels midway through.

It's been a while since you've seen me ;)

So here's my misshapen head reflection in a cool convex mirror that I found while being very bored in the lab:

good on ya mate! I hate having to "explain" to everyone why diesel is good.
Speaking as a fellow relatively powerful (ish) diesel driver, I think this deserves a + rep!
