Pre-Ringmeet Roadtrip 2013 - Always check your nuts. (That's what she said)

So where are the freaking videos?

Also, nice writeup. Nice to see some pictures of the trip again. Forgotten a bit of it already. Feels good to be reminded:)

Yeah, that's why I write these. Even though I had a memory list of things that happened, I still had to resort to pictures, lips report and other sources to make sure in which order things happened. Even several days worth of events got mixed up at times..

Toilet photos! I've never been so excited to see a bathroom, at least since I last had a hot curry...

Also I like to think that my Disco with it's stiffer than standard suspension could wipe the floor with whatever this thing was. Maybe one day you'll get to find out. :D

Bringing back great memories again, thanks. :)

Anyway, here is a video of the whole group (-IceAudi, missed the fast road exit) going up the Col de la Madelaine on a great piece of road during Sunday the 4th August 2013:

0:00 - Roll call by Sarah
2:19 - Aborted overtake by the Alfa
2:52 - PUSSY! :D
31:50 - "Two minutes, to take some pictures?!" - Yeah sure... to take some pictures of the overheated BMW 850 for the next 45 minutes...

OK so Adrian finally got around to sorting out the video of when we were nearly lightly killed en route to the Col D'Iseran.......

Wow. Didn't knew that happend. - No wonder you took it easy over the Pass a bit later on.

Ok, that was fairly close, granted. But remembering roadtrip 2012, ... good thing we don't have video of a few moments and situations there.. :p

That was really close! what was that guy doing?
He was swerving a bit to the middle of the lane because there were fucking pedestrians waiting at a bus stop! You know, put some space in between them and the car? He just was not expecting a speeding lunatic coming from behind.

And you guys never told me that this thing happened next to people standing at the side of the road.

I wouldn't call this a representative sample. We (well, me and the ones in my field of view ;)) always slow down to approximately the speed limit when it towns. The fun happens elsewhere. I don't know what came over Adrian, maybe he was trying extra hard to impress/scare MWF...

To clarify: I was only referring to MWF's near-death experience in the video, not the roadtrip as a whole.

Right-o, then I agree. All I heard is MWF's endless ranting about Adrian trying to kill him, didn't realize the pedestrians were involved. Makes it a bit too close for comfort. A bit too close to post publicly, in fact.

The issue was actually that the old people in the video walked onto the road and were gesticulating at the van driver. He therefore had to avoid them and we had to do the same. Two wheels on grass and gravel and a large concrete block embedded in the grass verge approaching at a rate of knots. I reckon we were doing between 100 and 110 at that point. While Adrian probably shouldn't have gone for the overtake technically we were only just over the speed limit and it was a legitimate opportunity to pass scuppered only by a couple of senile farts shouting "Get off my lawn" in French.

There's a fucking bus stop, Matt. No matter if the old people stepped on the road or not, they had a reason to be there. And with people, especially pedestrians, especially old pedestrians, you have to allow some margin of error because they will do stupid shit, like they predictably did. Which Adrian did not.

There was no bus stop. They were crossing the road where there's no crossing, presumably expecting oncoming cars to stop.

I don't see a bus stop, only a 30 zone sign.

I stand corrected regarding the bus stop, mistook the 30 zone sign. But it makes my point only stronger: If there's houses (including a nice Landgasthof on the left-hand side of the road) around, if you are in a village, expect pedestrians to be there. And expect pedestrians to do unexpected stupid stuff. That's why driving like a loon with people around is a bad idea.
And no matter how much a GoPro's lens diludes the sense of speed, if that's a 30 zone, you can't tell me you are doing anywhere near the limit. Twice or thrice the limit? Maybe that.

I am happy that it all turned out well and no one got hurt. But it was a stupid idea to overtake on a road leading into a village, because you'll have to expect people to be around. Even on the street, for good or ill.

Ah I hadn't seen that in all its glory. Matt will you please use that face as your new avatar.

And regarding that road - I hit 100 (160k) on it but the Saab began to set sail (read; squirm around a lot) when it got bumpy at about 2:00 on that vid. I hit the brakes then (but no peds or car to hit when I went through something like an hour later :p) Granted the Saab was on fucked tyres, suspension, brakes etc then.

Also; DAT SOUND. Damn I missed that.
