problems with mkv to mp4 in order to play on ps3

hi all,

i read the sticky and some of the other posts but i didn't really find a suitable answer.

i used to just convert the 720p mkv files via quicktime / perian (using the pass through option) into mp4 and my ps3 would play it without any problems. ever since season 17 my ps3 doesn't recognize the mp4 files anymore. they still work fine though on my macbook (running 10.4.11).

i downloaded a season 17 torrent that says "works on ps3 and 360" and my ps3 plays those mp4 files without any problems. not sure what i'm doing wrong.

does anybody have any ideas? thanks for your help in advance.
 
i wish. ;)

both of those require leopard (10.5 and up). my mac is from 2006, therefore running tiger (10.4.11). i'm wondering about what happened with season 17 since i've had no problems with the previous 720p seasons.

We don't make the rips, but probably a newer version of x264 or something.
 
I am also having the same issue with using gotsent. i am not sure if anyone else is doing this but i use got sent to turn them into mp4 files to copy to my PS3. i have the entire TG catalog on my PS3 so i dont have to stream them form my PC. not sure if anyone else is doing that. i also use PS3 media center to stream the .mkv files of other shows but TG is most important to me to copy to my PS3 hard drive. not sure what has happened since the end of season 16 but i hope the solution comes soon. in the mean time i am using the handbreak converter to convert my .mkv to .mp4. handbreak takes longer to convert than gotsent but its something.
