Hello all!

As some of you might have heard, and probably most of you have not, here in Macedonia there have been protests against police brutality and an attempt by the government to cover up a murder of a 22-year old by a member of the police special forces.

It all happened the night after the elections. A special forces member, who was off duty but hired by the winning (already ruling) party to provide security for the celebrations on the city square, brutally murdered a 22 year old, by kicking his face against a concrete bench, in front of witnesses.

The government tried to cover it up, by going as far as completely denying it for almost 40 hours after the incident. Party members went to the murdered kid's family and asked tried to convince them not to say anything. The minister of the interior came out on the news and completely denied the murder ever took place, along with the spokesperson of the ministry of interior. After pressure from protesters (mostly organized via Twitter and Facebook) the murderer was arrested and brought to justice.

However, what the protesters demand, is the resignation of the minister of the interior, as well as the spokesperson, for various reasons. Not only did they deny that it ever happened, but they tried to cover it up, and they lied to the public (duh). They say there's no moral or political responsibility for the minister to turn in her resignation - although how this makes sense, is completely a mystery to me.

The hilarity goes on in pro-government media (99% of media in Macedonia are pro-govt). First they tried ignoring the protesters, but that didn't work. Now they're trying to discredit the protests and protesters themselves, by fabricating "evidence" that the organizers are pro-opposition, and that they've been to "Special Protest-Organizing School" in order to train how to organize a protest and "bring down the newly re-elected government". The ruling party has gone to the lengths of organizing counter-protests, which are "against the political involvement of young people by the opposition". These counter-protesters claim to be not politically related, but nowadays everything is on Facebook, and it's been proven that the organizers are not only party members, but also very active party members. It would be hilarious if t weren't so sad.

Anyway, we need your help. We need support from around the world, to have our cause heard and understood.

I can go on and on, but I'll just link you to the website of the protests, as well as a specific link to see how you can help.

Thank you all! We all appreciate any and all help!

EDIT: A few more links that might help.

EDIT: Some pics from the protests.
