Sony Playstation 2 Emulator

Pcsx2 0.7 (win32 version) (ready to use) (new)

Pcsx2 0.7 (Linux version) (if your using this you don't need it ready to use) (new)

which i haven't gotten to work, does anyone have a ps2 emulator?!?!?

i realy don't understand why this doesn't exist yet. basically, a ps2 is just an ordinary pc, so it shouldn't be that hard to implement.

No. It's not at all. It's not even close. Ask anyone who has tried to program games for the thing. An xBox is basically an ordinary PC, but taking advantage of the PS2's power requires really talented programmers.

All of these emulators are just silly. Go out and buy a PS2.

So...is a working X-Box emulator available? ;)

The ps2 a pc ?
It's as far as you can get from a pc without being a microwave oven.
The "heart" of the PS2 is the emotion engine. First of all it's a 128bit architecture, ur pc is probably a 32bit architecture unless it's an Athlon64.
The Emotion Engine contains two 64-bit integer units with a 128-bit SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data, like SSE and SSE2 instructions) multi-media command unit, two independent floating point vector calculation units (VU0, VU1), an MPEG 2 decoder circuit.

I think now you can guess why it could be hard to emulate :)

Atleast they have nice frame rates when running games! 0.88fps!

Prob yes, but not off the top of my head

The x-suck, i mean box, has some speical encodeing on the CDs, but bascially everything else is Computer....X-box controllers? they are USB ports, i kid you not, i have a X-box to USB converter i made and it works (but u need to DL some drivers, it not plug and play, sadly)

Can you buy me one?

No. But really, even if there were a PS2 emulator, it would be extremely buggy and probably look like crap. Dreamcast emulation is still quite problematic.

Thanks for backing me up on that one Voodoo. As you can see, the PS2 isn't even remotely similar to a PC. It has a DVD drive and you can play video games on it - that's as close to a PC as it gets.

I have little to no interest in emulation, so I don't really keep on things, but as far as I know there is a semi-stable xBox emulator. I remember hearing about one called Xeon that could emulate Halo.

I just really don't see the point in emulating consoles though. I'm a bit of a console and video game collector, so I'm pretty dedicated to consoles. Console games are designed to be played through a very specific piece of hardware in a very specific way. Everything from the control scheme to the load times are carefully controlled and engineered by the game designers. Playing the games through a PC with some crap joypad or keyboard just destroys the experience.

I wish they just made all of the PS2 games for PC, since the ones they do make for PC run just as good if you have good hardware.

Well, you can use PS controllers on PC if you get an adaptor.

Well, you just don't get it then. A console is something completely and inherently different from a PC and the games should naturally be completely different as well.

I don't want to get into a big ludological rant but video games and computer games are completely different and should stay that way.

Well everything up untill the dreamcast has been emulated to great sucess soi far. The super nintendo, ps1 and n64 are very well supported. Some even offer superiour visual enhancements like fsaa via d3d support.

We'll just have to wait untill someone, or a team takes the trouble and gets the ps2 emulator finished. Theres no denying that theres already some substancial progress.

^ Well, yes, it will happen eventually, but I don't imagine it will for a while.

I still don't understand why you would want to play console games on a computer though. It completely destroys the experience. I guess if you are a cheap bastard and enjoy playing bastardized games it would be perfect. :? :p

Very nice way of putting it  But you own a ps2, so i understand you bias views.

I bet you can figure proper arguments against what you just said yourself.

With a proper joystick, the ps1, snes and previous consoles (neo geo is another great one) are pretty much the same (honestly). Its hard to get a proper snes these days, let alone games for it. The internet is a great solution in that aspect.

But i agree, the ps2 is another story atm.

I don't think it will ever happen, becausethe PS3 will be out by the time they're close, so it would be pointless to continue trying to emulate the PS2 I think :)

i'm not really following your arguement zenon...

what is this experience u speak of?
sitting on a hard floor 2 feet in front of a tv for 15 minutes (exagerating)
trying to type your name in using the left right up down
keys?

or is it the experience that u have a buddy next to you
and when he hides u glance over and see exactly where
he is...?

to be fair, i've NEVER owned a console in my life....
i've played many, but never owned one so i'd like
for you to tell me about your "experiences"
