What is the difference between the FQ-320 thats available in Europe and the MR available in the States? Is it just a tweaked turbo charger or is it a more complex engine difference creating the gap in horsepower?

I don't know exactly, but there are a few differences between the 320 and the MR. I believe the 320 is a bit better in terms of power, both the MR and 320 have a few better parts then the stock Evo. I'm really not sure what the changes are. I think the MR has about 270HP and the 320 has around 320HP. I'm not sure.

not sure about the FQ-320, but the MR here in the states is basically improved verion of the regular Evo (GSR).
It has slightly more power (276 horsepower and 286 pound-feet of torque versus 271 and 273), blisten shocks and struts that gives better ride quality and better performance on the track, new active center diff, a new helical limited-slip front diff, and a six speed gearbox (over the five speeds of the other evos). It also has a few other things like those fins on the roof towards the rear, new lightler BBS rims, and an aluminum roof.

I know what the MR in the states has, I'm wondering what the difference is between that and the MR FQ-320 that gives it the extra fifty or so horsepower.

i heard that the american evo's are pretty crap compared to the japanese ones. it doest have much of the eletronic gadgets, many taken out coz they neeeded more expeensive parts to meet with US emission.

I'm not even going to pay mind to that post.

Why it?s the honest truth, it was from the Mitsubishi. Head at TAS where he told BMI the difference between the American and jape evo.

American evo doesn?t have AYC and stuff.

I'm a little bitter about the destruction the English language is going through thanks to the internet.

why don't u argue over PM's so i dont have to scroll (let alone read) your BS posts.
u wankers.

good story about the evo, rumor has it the knock sensor is very tempermental
and if u rev a loud enough exhaust it cuts back a lot of boost....so for ex
street racing and drag strip style racing heheh =] can anyone confirm this?

Hmm I'm not sure about that, but I did see a forum thread somewhere else where this kid's Evo would stall when he pulled near a muscle car. It seems one of the sensors is affected by the noise frequency that muscle cars make and the sensor goes wack and the car shuts off. I find that pretty funny.

:lmao: Nice way to win a race... Deafen your opposition.

yeah that is where the story originated...
and i got to thinking what sensor it could be?
and ppl are saying the knock sensor...
sooo whos got a loud car, and who's got an evo???

hello...
I'm an evo owner and thus an enthusiast...
the first thing to understand is that the FQ series and ANY american evo are not related (so to speak)

the US "MR Edition" as Mitsubishi calls it is not the same as the JDM MR. The US is really just a US GSR with an aluminum roof, different wheels, the 6-speed transmission, and bilsten struts. It's the exect same motor as the regular 05 GSR with no aditional power (all 05 evos got the power bump)

The FQ series are standard UK evolitions modified in England for more power by doing a bunch of mods and retuning.

so there is really no relationship.

What is a GSR...
