Sideways Catch My DRIFT?
How Hard Will It Be to convert a FWD 1987 Corolla DLX 4 Door To RWD? And Also To Drop a Manual Tranny in there also.

The auto to manual trnasmission conversion is pretty simple... most workshops will do it... just go to a junkyard, buy a manaul transmission fom a 1987 corolla get someone to fix it... should be relatively cheap as well since toyota parts aren't that expensive.... Unfortunetly, the RWD conversion is pretty close to impossible because I believe your toyota engine is transverse mounted... the only way think you can do this is through a AE86 engine conversion and all the axle parts... but it might not work

As hard as buying a completely different car. It would be the easiest and cheapest way.

it would be damn near impossible to do a rwd conversion yourself. it would need serious fabrication and deep deep pockets. for auto to manual swap, just look on forums to see what you will need. on 240s you need a crossmember, master cylinder, hard lines, both brake and clutch pedel assemblies, driveshaft, and ecu and im sure im forgetting a lot of things. just remember its a lot more than just a tranny. your best bet is to buy a manual parts car and just rip everything out of that.

imo get a new car if you want rwd and 5 speed. s13s can be pretty cheap so can sr5 corollas if you have brand loyalty. also maybe look for a chrysler conquest/mitsu starion. cheap rwd and turbo plus no one knows about them so you wont be the average 240/ae86 driver

It's like asking, "How much would it cost to make this elephant look like Jessica Alba?"

Why don't you start off with a better platform?
(And live with the elephant in the meantime. :p )

Where do I even start. You would need a second RWD car to take parts from (or at least a rolling chassis), so why not just using that second car instead? :)

In addition to engine mounting mentioned above, a few very major body mods are needed, like a tunnel for driveshaft, space for rear axle and diff. It would sound insane even for Monster Garage :)

actually... its not really needed to use a different engine mounting, I think you can use a 4wd diff and tweak the transfer case to 1:9 ratio... therefore its a transverse engine mounted on a 4wd front diff, center and rear diff... that'll be as close as rwd you'll ever get... but yet again, you'll need a tunnel for driveshaft, space for the rear axle and diff again

you would need an awd tranny that bolts up to the block which im sure there isnt one and it would be almost easier to turn the engine than to get a awd transfer case to fit. basically, dont even bother with the old corolla, save.

I know... I was just thinking if zero insists on it... what should he do, but as I said, its pretty close to impossible

Your All Right. I"ll Just Start with a RWD car....
