How Hard Will It Be to convert a FWD 1987 Corolla DLX 4 Door To RWD? And Also To Drop a Manual Tranny in there also.
patrick10 said:it would be damn near impossible to do a rwd conversion yourself. it would need serious fabrication and deep deep pockets. for auto to manual swap, just look on forums to see what you will need. on 240s you need a crossmember, master cylinder, hard lines, both brake and clutch pedel assemblies, driveshaft, and ecu and im sure im forgetting a lot of things. just remember its a lot more than just a tranny. your best bet is to buy a manual parts car and just rip everything out of that.
imo get a new car if you want rwd and 5 speed. s13s can be pretty cheap so can sr5 corollas if you have brand loyalty. also maybe look for a chrysler conquest/mitsu starion. cheap rwd and turbo plus no one knows about them so you wont be the average 240/ae86 driver
how close are you to massachusetts bc i know someone selling a sr5 for a little over 1000Z3R0 117 said:patrick10 said:it would be damn near impossible to do a rwd conversion yourself. it would need serious fabrication and deep deep pockets. for auto to manual swap, just look on forums to see what you will need. on 240s you need a crossmember, master cylinder, hard lines, both brake and clutch pedel assemblies, driveshaft, and ecu and im sure im forgetting a lot of things. just remember its a lot more than just a tranny. your best bet is to buy a manual parts car and just rip everything out of that.

only thing worng with that is A im broke right now 2 you try finding one in CT for a good price..
And The Corolla i have now was free so yeah im gonna do all the work my self,,,
you would need an awd tranny that bolts up to the block which im sure there isnt one and it would be almost easier to turn the engine than to get a awd transfer case to fit. basically, dont even bother with the old corolla, save.andyhui01 said:actually... its not really needed to use a different engine mounting, I think you can use a 4wd diff and tweak the transfer case to 1:9 ratio... therefore its a transverse engine mounted on a 4wd front diff, center and rear diff... that'll be as close as rwd you'll ever get... but yet again, you'll need a tunnel for driveshaft, space for the rear axle and diff again
