Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Actually the hump is also for chassis rigidity, not only there for the possible drive shaft and exhaust. That's why almost every single FWD-only sedan/hatchback has that. Another benefit of the FWD is transversely mounted engine, which saves a lot of space and allows bigger interior. Of course you can just fail and sell longitudinally mounted engines in FWD cars as well...
Yeah, both the Clio and the Astra have the hump, albeit a small one. Neither were available with AWD. There are very few cars I've seen without them, usually MPV type things where the flat floor is particularly beneficial.

The ironic thing is that one of the big 'benefits' touted for fail wheel drive back when it was being foisted off on us in the 70s was that there would be no hump in the cabin and therefore there would be more room.

So much for that.

This reminds of that old Top Gear challenge with the cheap Porsches.

"You could have a blowout in any car."

"But you didn't."

Rick, sell the damn thing.

wait, do i understand right? some cop gave you a hard time for changing a tire on the shoulder? isn't that what it's there for?

Need to dump that Saturn albatross.

Have you got a hotkey for that? The last thing he needs is getting sued for RSI. :D

The thing is.. I AM trying to sell it now, it's like it's enacting revenge upon me

No haha, no police gave me hassles. Pulled over in the sense that i had pulled off onto the shoulder to perform the tire change. :)

When the tire burst I felt the vibration and feared for the worst: The engine died or transmission failed. But after I made it over I looked at my front tires....they were fine...the back one though...same one that slowly deflated before and I got a patch put in...was a different story:

EDIT: I'll take a photo later because my phone's stupid and takes photos but doesn't like to save them for some reason...

Audi tends to have longitudal engines mostly because of the whole AWD thing. Another thing is that when chassis is made they don't really know whether it will be AWD or FWD since the drivetrain is mounted later. Not to mention that it allows for a faster adjustment, if AWD is not selling well they can shift to FWD easily w/o having to make a change in the number of bodies being made.

Droid does! But not what you want :)

I think JipJopJones and you should swap avatars, now I realise what that picture is. :D

You know, at this point I suspect we are all being trolled.

No one can possibly be that stubborn regarding a shit car... can they?

Probably, though if he's trolling he's doing a nice job at it

How can you go wrong with a black, manual-equipped C5? $16.5 sounds pretty good too. Seems like C5's in that kind of shape usually cost more.

A friend of mine bought a similar C5 for that price. He has had no problems with it.

The only issue I can see right now (haven't called yet but I'm about to), is that it is 1,191 miles away. So $336 plane ticket to Boston plus ~4 tanks of gas. We'll see how this goes...

Yeah, I know about the AWD reason, they should just do what Subaru does and sell the AWD as standard equipment. But they're Germans, so they know they can get more money from optional AWD :p But actually some Audis have differences in AWD and FWD bodyshells, but I'm not sure if current models do.

But you're totally right, it's much easier to adjust the amount of AWD/FWD produced when they're identical.
