Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

I'm so glad we're off of winter gas here now. I was getting ~250 miles on a tank of gas around town in my Grand Prix before, now with the normal blend I'm on 175 miles with half a tank left.

what? you guys get different kinds of fuel in winter??? why?

We get winter diesel, but only because diesel freezes, which is annoying...what would be the point of "summer" petrol?

We get a winter blend that burns easier, because once winter sets in we'll go a few months without going above freezing and it's easier on the car with gas that burns more freely. Unfortunately, because my Grand Prix has a supercharger, that easier burning gas results in quite poor mileage.

Also, I drove past a green Kia Soul an hour ago. New ugliest car I've laid my eyes on.

You guys get different petrol in the winter, too. The ambient temperature affects the formulation required for optimum warm-up times and the prevention of vapor lock and unburnt fuel seeping down into the oil in the crankcase (colder temps require a more volatile fuel). Some places, such as California, will also alter the formulation during the summer for smog reasons, since it's usually worse then.

What kind? Black hood or should the black line on the sides be higher?

Kinda like this:

But I would leave them as they are now.:D

Alright :) That would look good, if I had black unpainted bumpers, yeah.

I'm going to leave them unmolested, I think.

Edit: The wheels, obviously :)

While in production, the door key hole in the passenger side was not blanked off (UK spec), hence this vehicle has a door lock on both left and right doors, a manufacturing error and therefore unique.

^ There is also a 996 Carrera 2 in the carpark, but we don't know whose it is...

Someone at my university has a Maserati Quattroporte.

I hear people say Audi's aren't worth buying, is that true? What is so bad about them?

2ZZ Mk1 MR2 or '99 XJR with non-Nikasil engine? Tough choice.

It's mainly just a sweeping generality. Comparing specific models is far more useful than judging brands with a such a large number of different cars.

Most people say things like "It's just a VW with a part frock." Actually...noone says that, but they mean it. However, I like the design asthetic (both inside and outside) of Audi's more than their mechanical/platform VW versions.

I'd LOVE to get the A3 or A4 sedan, but the different model choices are so confusing when they don't have a compare page for the different models.

I got around to watching The Price is Right from today just a bit ago, the last prize they offered during the show was rather nice. Helen (playing for the car) is 90 years old.

If you want to see the full clip, and how it ends, it starts at 5:20 in the video:

They did this on Valentines day as well on the couples' special, they offered a '75 Corvette. Videos of that are available on youtube as well.

I saw my first riced Kia yesterday. It was a Ceed or Pro'Ceed, I think, and it didn't look too bad. Black hood on otherwise bright-coloured car, some other modest modifications. I was just like.... "WTF, they rice Kias now?"
