Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

I can't comment on different station's quality but I just did some calculating and I'm glad to see I'm getting roughly 39.2 mpg in the Corolla. And that's about 95% urban as well. Pretty awesome compared to the 14mpg I was getting in the slower T bird

keeping the car between 1500rpm and 1800rpm all the time helps a lot apparently. I wonder how much worse it would be with an automatic?

Well, the prospect of making a car test a la Top Gear with two beater cars fell flat at the first try today. :( Me and my sister dug up two old cars, one Ford Escort and one Volvo 745 GLE for a combined sum of ?50, but the Escort's electrical system killed itself after 5 minutes of driving. All we got was one lousy picture.

Let me guess - the Volvo runs fine :D

After a hard day at work, I walked outside and noticed it was raining. So I did a pretty nice slide on one corner just before I got home. Very satisfying.

It runs on 3 cylinders when dropped under 1200 rpm and only 4 of the 5 gears work. But it still runs, yes. 367k km's and ticking.

THe cylinder issue can probably be solved by replacing the throttle position sensor. As for the gears...no fix there.

Got word this week that the electric car dealership in the same complex as one of my car dealer clients performed a 'Mexican moveout' one night and disappeared with no forwarding address. They sold (among others) the Smart forTwo conversion job called the EGA1.

Good riddance.

Why do car dealers close so early? I went to have a look at the new Hyundai i20 (I know) and the dealer was closed. On the sign it said they close at noon on a sunday. Why? Everyone buys cars on weekends. When we pulled up there were at least 3 other people who wanted to look at cars. And who is out before noon on a sunday anyway?

Hi, don't want to intrude any topics, but since this is the "random thoughts" - I have a random thought/question.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?
I mean, there are now brake liquid conteiner, no wires, nothing, do such cars even drive? Or everything is put in the back with some smart liquid pumps?

I think it must run on the power of shiny.

A black and white umbrella? I think I have one of those laying around someplace......would you like me to send it to you? :p

I am not spending a cent on that car. I payed a cup of coffee for it so i can live with the misfires. It's mostly used on 5000 rpm and upwards. :p

Washed, polished and detailed the '92 Corolla today. The result: it looks just the same as before, but with a couple of shiny bits here and there. Sadly, the rusty bits didn't magically disappear.

found a scratch on the front right wheelarch of the Astra today... not happy :(

thing is, I probably did it myself and not notice since the colour is strangely familiar (same as the garage door)
thankfully it's the kind that will buff out (just rubbing it with cloth made it thinner) but as it's pouring with rain it will have to wait until the exact time of "whenIcanbearsed" which will be some time...
