Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

and I thought OUR fines were massive

I always get lucky though, being 9 over the limit (as of 10 it starts getting expensive)

Thanks, that's very helpful. I couldn't have deciphered them myself

Are all scrapyard owners surly old guys like in Christine? The guy I talked to today had definitely modelled himself after Darnell.

Many are, yes.

They often give the best deals, though.

Is it just me, or does the front of that ASC McLaren Mercury Capri have a striking resemblance to the new Dodge Challenger?

FFFUUU for the day...

I went to work this morning, left my car at the university parking lot. School is out of session, so I'm pretty much the only one that parks there (plus one Scooby). I come back from work at 5pm and this is what I find:

Yep, they decided to do something to the plumbing and cut out the only exit from the parking lot. I probably won't be able to drive my car in the next few days...FFFUUU!!!

That's sucky. No warning beforehand?

Can you use the trailer in the middle of the picture to jump across the trench?

Should have bought a truck, then you could have gone offroading and left. :D

There is a fence on the other side of the back yard, so that's out.

Hmmm...thinking about that jump though

I feel proud of myself. I helped someone do a small hill start with a manual car. It was a mustang GT (the last gen, not the 2010). The gearbox on it was a POS on it for some reason. It didn't move freely at all.

About your car: drive on some grass.

The weather last night just was not letting me have a proper sendoff for my old tires, I apologize for that.

That said, I now haz new tires. :burnrubber:

And I also haz an estimate of $1111.62 for parts, labor, and wheel alignment. Needless to say, I won't be having "$437.24" of bushings replaced for "$611.45" of labor at this tire place. :roflmao:

Holy shit. Was that all around or just one end? It cost me $70 and a couple hours of my own labor to redo the bushings on my MG's rear ( I'm assuming that your Mustang is leaf sprung ).

That's just for the front end, the rear is fine.

If I had the proper space to do it myself I would, but I'll take it down to my mechanic and he'll have it done in a morning for maybe $200. I need to get his opinion on something else anyway.

I'm picking out a new car. We went and spun this thing around the local backroads at high revs and dangerous speeds. It was ok. I mean, the wankel makes me smile and the car is cool in that Japanese kind of way, but I don't really like the plastic seats, the non-turboed engine and that price tag of 24k?.

I also figured my next car has GOT to have a pair of pop-up headlamps. So that leaves me with a 180SX..

.. but as it would be a hoot to own and drive, I'm having second thoughts about the mechanics. Sure, the SR20DET has a more reliable top-end and that LSD is quite chuckable on the local street corner, but I still find myself steering toward the more simpler option:

The MX-5. Simple, small, cute, drop-top. .. girly, slow and old. And I hate baby blue.. So I started browsing these:

And what. I'll probably have an engine rebuild on my hands before long. I'll probably be better off just playing cards and using the bus.

Well the next generation wankel is coming soon (next year?). It will have DI and a redesigned housing with more displacement.

My dad is ecstatic because our Grand Am finally has 100K miles, maybe he's thinking about getting rid of it! We bought it new 13 years ago, you can tell how much everyone avoided driving it since then.

frankiess, I don't understand you at all!!!

You sold the Beemer, because you couldn't afford to live with it, and now you think that a wankel engined car will be cheap to maintain? :)

My thoughts exactly.

Annoyingly good points. Except that budgeting wasn't the only reason to give up the BMW, and budgeting isn't the only thing holding me away from wankels. :p
