Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Trying to sell my Jetta, I've had four people not realize 5spd, means not automatic

And I just had another kid call me and when I told him I let the insurance expire so I needed a days notice to let him reinstate my insurance so he can test drive it, he said, "It's cool dude I have insurance." I swear to God a college degree does not buy common sense. If daddy is paying for the car, the gas, the insurance, let daddy do the wheeling and dealing.

To be fair, there is such thing as a 5-speed auto, but yeah, you can never set the bar too low when dealing with the general public.

I love America... over here you would only get frowns and stuff if you DON'T offer an automatic... you get dumbass questions like "where's the clutch pedal" and "why does the gearshifter look so weird"

over there it's the complete opposite end of the scale...

Just saw a taxi that advertises itself as "Eurotaxi", so, want to bet what car was used? Peugeot? European Volkswagen? Would make sense.

Nope, you're quite wrong, it was a Japanese Toyota Vitz (Yaris) with a left-hand drive conversion :-D

Toyota: why did you make the mk2 MR2 so awesome and fast and cheap?

Now...if only I had $5000....

With 1, two hour modification I've turned my mundane family car into a firebreathing rally MONSTER!

I like how you call it a family car. We'd call it a compact

I think you need more lights... ;)

That's one hella big light, dude!

Ftfy

Yes, I'm from northern california. I'm picky about that kind of stuff.
Typically, you put some adjective if you are discussing size of the light. If you only were talking about number of lights, you could then use something like "there were hella lights"

/me being stupid and douchey.

well i wouldnt call 3-door car a family car, whats wrong with your bonnet in those pics?

Nothing wrong with the bonnet, just moisture and some old wax residue mixed up or something..

Yay! I fixed my friend - he almost bought a tragic pile of SUV garbage, and then it casually came up in conversation that a Crown Victoria is in fact a V8-powered RWD land yacht. He thought they were underpowered FWD V6's - and I have no idea where the hell he's been living that he doesn't know that. He's now coming along on my next LA trip, visiting every $2000 Interceptor in town, picking one, and we're driving it home.

Completely off topic but, how's that place holding up on the crest? Station fire hasn't got it yet has it?

Thanks for asking. Its doing fine. It was under mandatory evacuation for a day (saturday I think). The fire got in that valley behind the street above mine, but it did get close. Its kinda funny. According to family friends, someone on the street above (facing the valley where the fire got into) had a fire watching party at their house. Lots of people were there.

Thankfully, we had neighbors that kept us updated on the situation, but now its fine. When my dad picks me up from san diego to go back north, we are going to stop by to see how everything fared (and see how much ash is everywhere).

The cool part starts at 0:24

the house is on the opposite hill (the one below the fire), so the fire did get really close.

edit: to make this post mildly car related:
I haven't driven in 3 weeks. should be fun to get back into the swing of things...at least for 2 weeks until fall quarter starts.

I am so glad I found that these guys exist.

I thought that suspension looked familiar! It's such an elegant design, having the axles do double duty as the upper suspension links.
