Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Well, this is kinda cool.

Well the rear lights are from a Mitsubishi Lancer. This model to be precise:

So part Camaro, part Corvette and part shitty old Mitsubishi.

shit, i would've sworn that were viper taillights

i would kick the guy who did this to my car so hard in the face, you wouldn't recognise him anymore!

but then again, i wouldn't have parked my car there...

^that is actually quite clever, I'd love to see the face of the driver when he discovers his car

AFAIK that is the best solution, minimal, if any, damage to the car

yeah right

sidescirts always come lower than the floorpan, as do the exhaust and driveshaft
that guy has some serious damage to his car...

+ scratches in the protective layer of the underside of the car, so in 5 years time, he'll be rusted through

it's better to poke the forks through the windows and lift it by it's roof, than to lift it by it's belly...

I think the frame rails(even on a unibody) should take the load and not the side skirts. And I have seen a car lifted the way you think is better, the roof was clearly distorted afterwards.

There's a place I drive past occasionally and in the front they had a Volvo S60 on a fork-lift from the underside. It was like that for well over a year. I was always confused as to why it was there, as the car had no visual damage and they can easily fetch upwards of $10,000 on the used car market.

And car is now booked in to repair the key marks :D

Can't wait till its all shiny and beautiful again. Still, if I caught whoever did it they'll be breathing out of a hole for a long, long time.

All impounded cars are moved by forklift around here...

Can you let me know how much it cost you? I have key marks that I'd really like to get rid of.

Basically, my car is getting the following panels stripped down, resprayed and baked:

1) Hood
2) Front bumper
3) Left + Right door
4) Left + right rear 3/4 panel
5) Rear bumper.

The whole lot amounts to about $1100. Yes, my car got really badly keyed, and I'm taking the opportunity to get stonechips on the front bumper fixed whilst I'm at it. Blowing a fair amount of my savings on this repair job, but I want to keep the car for a while and its been done by somebody I can actually trust to do the job properly. Their workshop is also brand new, so my car will be the first to go through lol.

I drove into Chicago yesterday from the sticks and passed three Subaru Foresters on my way. Now, we all know what the standard stereotype of the Scooby Tree-Fucker driver is. What amazed me is that all three drivers:

1) were male.

2) were older.

3) had full beards.

Do you think we have to make alterations to the stereotype? Is the stereotypical Forester driver now lesbians and daddybears? Or is it daddybears in the Midwest US and lesbians everywhere else?

Grats, although it sucks you have to do that at all. Morons don't realize how expensive it is to remove such damage. A shitty respray in some discount bodyshop doesn't cut it and usually results in your car looking worse after than it did before. Keying a car can easily cause felony levels of damage and the idiots could end up in prison, but they're too stupid to know it.

I still don't get why people want to key cars in the first place.

:(

{ throws puffalump at Hbriz }

Ah, but you've got a nice, new Mitsubishi. They're pretty different all around.

Pretty much this :p Does yours look anything like that one? And I'll keep the puffalump then :D

Hey, I had to live with a Lancer similar to that for a month. Believe me, "shitty" was the best word to describe that car. This was a tinny, poorly made, cheap, underpowered pile of misery and bares no resemblance to the current Lancer. At all.

One of my brother's friends has that vintage Lancer coup? in white, but seeing as his previous car was a 1980's Colt with a completely rusted through exhaust system and was louder than most of the fart-can Civics around here (you could hear it coming from two blocks away ) I think it counts as a decent upgrade!

Meanwhile on our car home-front.... My mum's 306 is stuck at the Honda / Mazda / Peugeot dealer with an overheating issue caused by a coolant leak so slow we didn't notice until the car began overheating on Boxing Day, but their main Peugeot mechanic is on holidays until Wednesday and the only guys there are not specialists and can't really touch it, so it's stuck there until he's available. I'm stuck with all the errand-running and taking my brother to work etc. Oh well, it's my fault for getting a manual that only I can drive. I did that purely to stop my brother from 'borrowing' my car, and seeing as he has crashed mum's car twice this year (in fact, the problem it has now could be related to the accident it had in October, despite having had a new radiator shipping in from France for it), that may have been a good idea after all, even if it's a bit of a bother for me after driving home from Geelong late last night still a bit dazed after celebrating NYE.

I just wish she'd buy a new car, but my brother will probably just crash that too. He needs his own POS wagon to lug his drumkit / amps etc around in, as that has also helped to wreck the 306. But then we'd have the problem of having three cars parked in a line in the driveway and have to keep swapping them around all the time. He might be moving out soon, however, so that should solve the problem. Shame he can't really afford to rent a place / buy a car because he keeps blowing his pay on booze & cigs. :wall:

/End mini-rant. Don't you love families?
