Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

I might create a whole new thread, but for now just a little taster of my morning:

It was a blast! And at the top, at 14,000 feet we met some friends:

Have to do an aircon delete on my truck tomorrow morning. The A/C condensor is so plugged up with shit and the fins are so mangled that the radiator is starved for airflow. That said, I took some awesome video of me flogging it around the local farm, telco and power line access roads at totally unsafe speeds - but my phone is being a dick and not letting me copy it to the SD card. The thing sounds SPECTACULAR at high revs in that way only terrible, anemic V6's can. It's not a noise you're supposed to like, but I do. There's just something outright hilarious about a 3.9L V6 putting out a piffling little 125HP and 195 torques spinning wildly near its redline and only doing 15mph and then the sigh of relief it makes after you finally let it out of 1st..

Looks like Mt. Evans to me. Fun drive. I was amazed at how cold it is up there.

Yes, it is Mt. Evans indeed. Highest paved road in North America - 14,280ft. Magnitudes better than Pikes Peak. I think Pikes Peak is majorly overrated. This road was so much fun.

And yes, it was bloody cold at the top. It was so high that even my Turbo felt significantly slower off the line.

That's all it has??? I knew it was slow but...damn!

Seeing a lot of commercials for the Fiat 500 and the GF's freind asked what they cost so I ended up pulling up the website. The price is about what I expected it to be, but they call the different variations the "Pop, Sport, and lounge". Even the womens were laughing at that.

They laughed even harder when they seen the limited edition one by Gucci. They wanted to know if it came with a purse.

I love the US 500 ads. Awesome as hell. I'd have to get a Sport version though, pop and lounge seem lame.

Clearly it is not a purse because I cannot bring it everywhere. I think they would get mad if I tried to drive a Fiat through the supermarket.

Even though that would be an awesome solution to many of my problems.

Seeing some of the gargantuan things some women try to pass off as purses, I'd have to say that they can't bring them everywhere, either. :p Quite a few women's purses won't fit in the "max carry-on size" frames at airports, for example.

Edit: Though it is great fun watching them try to get the things to fit.

New fault with the Tercel: the aircon doesn't work on Hi-setting, and anything under is....lacking, sucks all the power doesn't do much in the cooling bit. this is one thing were even Spectre has to agree that GM excels, their A/C systems are rather excellent, sometimes overkill even.

Also, Me after going back to the mitsu:

"Oh sweet torquey Jesus"

As in "A/C system shuts down". Fans, compressor, the lot.

The Tercel project is going on hold for a bit. It can be driven daily as-is and sudden, unplanned expenses have made a dent on the planned family expenses. Still, I could use the info.

Does it blow cool or cold air on the other fan settings? And are you sure the compressor is cutting out at the exact same time?

cold and yes, sure

Just looked at the wiring diagram. Bad fan switch is what's probably at fault. Also, pull out the blower fan and clear out the crap in its intake.

How is that even possible? They must have tried real hard to get power and torque down so low with such a big engine...
Is it ultra reliable though ( as in will do 1.000.000 miles) because otherwise why would anyone buy it?
