Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Took the truck out for its first real drive since... Like Christmas 2017.

Aside from feeling like the tires were squares for the first 3 miles, it worked flawlessly.

You can ignore an old Dodge Cummins longer than modern diesel trucks will run at all.

Der8auer previously had suspension problems with his Audi RS5, now has a problem that after heavy braking it pulls to one side.

Turns out the right hand side has what appears to be a LHS rotor!

After he beds in the new rotors, he can check if this was the cause of the wandering.

I realized all our vehicles have different engine AND drivetrain configurations:

I4 + FWD
F4 + AWD
I6 + 4WD
V8 + RWD

The Blanton fleet is slightly less diverse. (edited to slightly tweaked @Matt2000 's specs)

FL V6 + 4WD
FL F4 + RWD
FT I4 + FWD
FL I4 + RWD (x2)
FL V8 + RWD
FT I4 + AWD

V8 + RWD

I4 + AWD

I'd say that's pretty well covered.

So what do i put except AWD, I feel all left out :-(

??

RT I3 RWD
FT I4 FWD
FRT MSP AWD

Having played Gran Turismo and Forza for years it's immediately apparent that this fun idea is missing engine layout. Front, Mid, Rear. Simples

So my diverse car history is:

FL I4 R/4WD
FL I4 4WD
FL V8 4WD
FL I4 4WD (another bloody...)
MT I3 RWD
MSP AWD

I added L or T for longitudinal or traverse.

Ok I’ll play but this’ll be weird

F T 0 cyl FWD (it’s electric it doesnt have any cilinders!)

And

F T I3 FWD (wife’s car)

I just realised I never owned a RWD or AWD car, and all of them bar one were 4 cylinders... is that being sensible or being boring?

Apart from a Hyundai Tucson which was AWD, all the cars I drove were FF I4. I did rev an I5 Audi, and I drove a Škoda Superb which had a longitudinally mounted engine, so at least there's some diversity.

Also, I did drive a RWD motorised vehicle, but it wasn't a car. It was a two-stroke, one-cylinder Tomos moped. :D

As a matter of fact, here's the list of all the cars I remember driving, in case anyone wants to know:

  • Zastava Yugo Koral 55 (1990)
  • Citroën Saxo 1.1 X (1996)
  • Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi (2010-ish, driving school car)
  • Škoda Superb 2.0 TDI (2006)
  • Volkswagen Golf (2003-ish, Mk4, most likely 1.9 TDI)
  • Citroën BX 15 RE (1988)
  • Opel Combo C 1.3 CDTI (2009-ish, utter piece of junk)
  • Hyundai Tucson 2.0 CRDi AWD (2006-ish, first generation)
  • Hyundai i30 1.4 (2013)
  • Volkswagen Golf (1996, Mk3, most likely 1.6 petrol)
  • Citroën Xsara 1.9 HDI (2002, maybe 2003r)
  • Fiat Punto (2001-ish, Mk2, most likely entry petrol model)
  • Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI Variant (2001, Mk4, with 400,000 km on the clock)
  • Škoda Roomster 1.9 TDI (2007)
  • Opel Corsa D 1.2 (2011)

And that's it, I might've missed some car that didn't leave a remark on me, or that I simply forgot. But yeah, for the most part, it's a bunch of European econoboxes.

MT I4 RWD
FL V8 RWD
FT I4 FWD

Thinking back on the cars I've owned, a number of them have had the same configuration as the ones above, apart from two different six-cylinder cars (FL I6 RWD and FT V6 RWD). I wonder if I'm unique on the boards in having owned this particular layout:

FL V4 FWD

Hmm, 0cyl, 0 wheels.

Yup, I am currently without my own vehicle. No current plans to get one either.

Maybe if I find a sweet version of the FL V8 FWD vehicle I use to have.

Planning to live an Ash Williams fantasy?
