Is 36 years for a sequel a record?
It appears so. Or at least depending in the exact day, nearly tied. Top Gun was also 36.
I'm not counting Bambi/Bambi II because while it got a theatrical release, it didn't in the U.S. where it was direct to video. Otherwise that would be 64 years.
Today, to beat that, there would need to be a sequel to a movie from 1959.
