Random Thoughts...[F1 edition]

I agree!

Apparently the grid girls aren't too amused at losing their jobs. Apparently they don't consider the elimination of employment opportunities to be all that "empowering".

It's a crock of shit. Yay feminism, now there's a bunch more unemployed women around the world, well done.

if all they're worth is shutting up and being pretty, that's their own problem...
i'm sure they got all the same opportunities to get a real job just like everyone else

now they can all stop just costing money and go create some value!

Well, they're replacing the grid girls with grid kids, who'll work for free, child labor ftw! And it will be something cute to look at for all those fans who aren't allowed within 500 yards of elementary schools.

This is interesting. IndyCar is testing their own version of the aero screen and released a POV clip of Scott Dixon running it.

Looks very promising.

So because you decide something's not worthy, then it's not. Have you met these women? What makes you say that's all they know how to do? Can't they be taking the money they're being paid to hold a sign to go to college or feed their kid or get an anal bleaching for all you care. Like waving a flag when you notice someone has gone off the track takes a huge amount of skill, so let's fire all the marshalls.

Whatever bone.

1- Marshalls are volunteers.
2- They do a bit more than just waiving a flag around.
3- Without marshalls there would be no racing. Absence of grid girls would have no effect on the on track action.

It was just a random example.
You could have racing without many things, doesn't mean taking them away is a neat idea.
The fact of the matter is these girls are being booted out because they're pretty and they're offensive to the agenda pushing feminists who are simply jealous of them and resent them for making money cos "they're just pretty". Like there are no other jobs where you need a certain genetic predisposition to "make it" and it's just a draw of luck, really. Including the damn drivers!

Shit like this for the sake of political correctness is taking over everything fun. I am not thrilled to see another casualty. I rarely even see these girls on the screen, it doesn't affect my viewing experience that much, but the fact they got fired cos someone "got offended" is just, fuck no.

i have no problem with that, it's the fact i can hardly afford a ticket for a race because the only revenue the promotor makes is the ticketting
and then from this revenue he has to go pay these girls for being pretty, while they don't add anything to the experience.

if i spend a €, i want value in return, and standing there being pretty isn't adding value to the experience, so i'm happy to say goodbye to them

if they're just volunteers, i'm all for it!

You think they're going to lower ticket prices now that grid girls are gone? They're already planning to replace them with a gird kid program, which will probably end up costing more money.

no, i'm not that naive
people just should stop expecting being paid for "being", even if they are pretty
let them pick up litter if they realy want to come to an F1 race, then they're worth the money they're given...

but the grid kids, isn't that something set up by FOM? they will make sure the kids will be there etc
it's no longer the responisibility of the promotor i think?

I'm all for equal pay, non-exploitation and freedom from sexual assault in any form, but... I'll have to agree with mpicco that this line of the PC train has gone off the tracks.

As most of you know, I'm old and have been retired for a while. For most of my career, I worked of one of the 'Big Oil' corporations. I got to know the guys in advertising and, even after I retired, they continued to supply me with calendars every year to pass out to my 'racing' friends. This year, I have no calendars. Why? Because the calendar editor happened to choose two photos of sponsored cars that included females in bikinis. Nothing risque - less skin than you'd see at the beach on any summer's day. Someone in either HR or Legal saw one of the calendars and went nuts. Some calendars had been mailed (I hadn't sent in my request yet...), but all the remaining ones were destroyed and the ad guys were told to recall as many as they could. Now I have to tell my friends who expected calendars that they're officially a part of the #MeToo movement...

I guess there was no enthusiasm for the new halo'd designs being released. Understandable.

But here they are anyway, in order of release.

The livery on the Red Bull is pretty cool, but it's not going to be used next season apparently. They're calling it a "special edition", so who knows what the RB will actually look like. I think Haas did a good job with their livery, with the halo and shark half fin in black, so they're not so visible. Makes the car look pretty sleek.

RB does it every year, make an awesome livery for testing and then just evolve last years design for the first race

i must say i was expecting more aero around the halo

Me too, but maybe they don't want to show their hands just yet. Who knows.

Sauber unveiled their new Alfa branded C37 today.

renault, yeah right!
like that car will drive one single meter.

compared to the other cars, they forgot to develop barge boards
and they're actually showing of a generic floor, there isn't a single slot in it!

don't worry, no one will try to copy you, could as well show the real deal :p

and i already like sauber twice as much as last year (i didn't at all)
kaltenbaum gone, vasseur in, finally a decent livery...bring it on!
(but they'll still suck i think)
