Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

I think you two need to read more history.

Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

I have and still do. It's different reading about it and actually being present for what's happening.

This will spawn a storm of screaming from both the Right and Left, but I suspect the real lesson will be drowned out if it's even whimpered. This is what happens when hysteria is ratcheted up and humans are no longer seen as individuals.

I will add, both the Right and Left are equally capable of much worse; Hitler and Stalin have proven that. If you hold a mindset that defines people as groups rather than individuals take this horrific video as a warning of where your ideology may lead you.

Quoted for truth.

That's the Obama legacy for ya - he is the great divider. The left generally likes groups, more so than the right (as in Dems and Reps) and it's all the more reason to go libertarian.

Highly ironic that you of all people try to answer argatoga's concern of bunching people into groups given the various times you've bunched everyone left-leaning into one group in the election thread.

We literally register ourselves as part of one group (Democratic party) or the other (GOP) and then we argue over which party's candidates to elect to lead the country try. Quite different from the Obama divisions, namely by race and net worth.

I am registered as an independent :)

Quick Question for future discussions - on what side does Obama stand concerning net worth? Does he stand with the rich elites or the unwashed masses? I've been getting mixed signals from the right side of the political spectrum during the run up to the election on that issue ... seemed like Obama was either a terrible socialist helping his poor working comrades - or a rich elitist out of touch with the common man. That was pretty confusing ... maybe you can clear this up for me, because from these two extremely different opinions I can only conclude that he's pretty much in the middle of that. But that cannot be right if he's such a divisive president ...

His all about corporate wellfare

Like most liberals, Obama (likely genuinely) believes that he is helping the poor and the less fortunate, while pushing policies that harm them - Johnson and Clinton have probably done this the most. The reality is that Obama hasn't done much to fulfil the progressive wet dream to take from the rich and give to the poor; on the face of it, I think that's mostly good (because wealth redistribution is fucking theft), although I do wish he'd gone after the banks for fraud, but the downside is that he has actually hurt the poor in the process. I'm sure his intentions were genuinely noble but the end result, well, not so much. In the end Obama screwed up large parts of the economy, played with the numbers to make it look like the economy improved more than it has, took credit for an energy boom that he fought against, waged useless wars, failed to help the poor, fanned the flames of racism - all the while thinking that he's helping.

I think most people forget that he came from Illinois. What did everybody expect from an Illinois politician? I wouldn't be surprised if he joined Blagoveich (sp?) out in Colorado in a year or two.

@Level,

A liberal wet dream is to get the wealthy to pay a fair share of taxes. A side effect of that would be a better infrastructure that benefits everyone.

What would you define as fair? I am always quite worried when people start talking about fairness.

In this case fair would be at least the same percentage as someone making $100,000 a year. You know it is bad when one of the richest men on the planet talks about the percentage his secretary being higher than his is not right.

Then why do Democrats keep pushing for higher and higher taxes? Also, unfortunately the loopholes they use are there for a reason - they're generally necessary but, as with any system, there will be some "abuse". That's pretty far down the list of my concerns though - most important is shinking government; I spent one week so far working with the gov and the level of incompetence, redundancy, and laziness is g-ddamn astonishing even for a cynical critic of the gov such as myself.

Except that he probably still paid more real dollars in one year than his secretary will pay in his/her entire life.

Personally, I'd like to see a flat tax rate with no possible deductions. Whether you earn a hundred dollars a year or a hundred billion, you pay the same percentage. The idea that we can call for other people's tax rates to be increased, but not our own, is ridiculous.
