Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

Up to 49 dead now ? Takes an especially sick bastard to live stream something like this. Also disturbing that they coordinated as a team of four.

Can't wait for CNN to suggest that a) New Zealand needs more gun control; b) it's Trump's fault; or c) be shocked that white supremacists aren't just American Republicans.

An extra disgusting thing is that he the main person behind it wasn't even from NZ. He was going to try to have a headline grabbing "cleansing" somewhere else, to stop the muslim "invaders" to his country and others like his. NZ was just supposed to be a stopover, but decided it would be a great place to do it because there was nothing like it before. So he invaded another country seemingly at peace, and killed it's citizens to stop his own "home" from being "invaded".

I wonder if he brought the gun with him from Australia or aquired it in NZ somehow. If you're saying NZ was supposed to be a stopover only, then it sounds like he brought the gun from Australia.... How?? Private boat illegally docked in NZ?

Most media reports I've read indicate that the guns were legally registered: in NZ:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...and-suspect-white-supremacist-symbols-weapons

"Ardern (NZ Prime Minister) said she would consider a total ban on semi-automatic firearms after the alleged gunman obtained five guns legally. “I can tell you one thing right now: our gun laws will change,” she told reporters. "

NZ hasn't had a large-scale massacre like this up to now, apparently. The Port Arthur massacre pretty much caused any firearm that isn't a pistol or self-loading shotgun to be banned in Australia, so this will probably have the same effect in NZ.

Special derision has to go to the Australian Senator who tweeted that the attack was caused by Muslim immigration. Special credit goes to the young man who hit him with an egg at a press conference afterwards. Some might say it's a pity that it wasn't a brick.

Not sure which idea is more idiotic, lowering the voting age to 16 [...]
Since we're randomly assigning voting rights to an age - no matter how "grown up" a person really is - that Age should be open to discussion. I mean, in your country people are said to be grown up enough to drive cars alone at 16. And marry at 14 (in some states, under conditions). But you cannot be trusted with alcohol untill you are 21. People are also tried in US-courts as adult from the age of 14. And the voting age is what again? 18. I think there is some confusion in the US when exactly someone is an adult and thus should have the capacity to vote. Kids being tried as Adults especially bings that point home for me.

German voting age is 18 too. But here that is also the age where you are allowed to drive a car (alone, you can get a license at 17 but there has to be someone 30+ with you in the car untill you are 18), marry and drink hard liquor. You also cannot be tried as an Adult if you are under 18. So being 18 is really the point where you are recognized as an adult in society. Something like this makes sense to me. You have one date in your life from where you are being recognized as an Adult. 16, 18, 21, 17 and three months, 2 days and 4 hours ... just pick one. But then aply it to everything.

You have a point.

A few notes:
  • In most states, under 18 gets tried as a juvenile, with some exceptions depending on the case.
  • Marriage age is 18. Again, there are some exceptions but it's generally 18.
  • Earliest age to get a full driver's license is 16.5 - I imagine more out of necessity than anything else.
  • Smoking age is 18.
  • Military age is 18.
  • Alcohol is 21.

At 16 most Americans are sophomores in high school. They are just learning how to drive. They are legally dependent on their parents still. They've taken maybe one history class. They don't have even a remote understanding of the real world.

Lev more or less covered it, but the biggest thing is that legally speaking anyone under 18 doesn't have a voice. You cannot enter into contracts, you cannot make choices about your medical treatment, you can't even really expect privacy under HIPAA.*
*There is a way to get emancipated before 18 and become a "full adult" but that requires a court ruling.

As far as being tried as an adult that is very much case by case and typically reserved for very heinous crimes, where it's clear that the child knows better. As an example someone who commits murder (legally speaking it has to be pre-meditated to be considered a murder).

As far as driving age goes, it's more of a practical consideration due to the fact that something like 90% of the country requires a car to get anywhere. In NYC for example a full driver's license can be obtained at 17 if you go through extra training, otherwise its 18+, while the rest of the state is the standard 16+. There is just no practical reason why a high school student would need a car here (hell that applies to most adults).

https://www.dailywire.com/news/45068/breaking-michael-avenatti-arrested-charged-bank-ryan-saavedra

In summary, Avenatti was arrested by the feds in New York for attempting to extort 20 million from Nike, AND separately arrested by the feds in California for bank and wire fraud.

Basta la vista, you smug bastard.

EDIT: It just got better.

The co-conspirator for Avenatti's attempted Nike shakedown? One Mark Geragos.

Who, you ask?
  1. CNN's legal analyst (https://www.cnn.com/profiles/mark-geragos-profile), who also happens to be
  2. Jussie Smollett's lawyer
:ROFLMAO:

This is disgusting. Good on Avi for taking this disingenuous fuck Jeffries to task.

https://www.dailywire.com/news/45096/comedy-central-show-edits-interview-malign-jewish-hank-berrien

Daily Wire said:
In what surely should be unsurprising, a show on Comedy Central targeted an Australian Jewish military veteran after the Christchurch, New Zealand massacre by allegedly selectively editing an interview with him from months ago in order to color him as a radical and also breaking a reported pledge that the interview would not be on the same segment as any Nazi sympathizers or neo-Nazis. One problem: The Jewish veteran had taped the interview on his phone, and exposed the show’s maleficent deception...

You know how Spectre loves to bang on about how crooked Illinois (and by extension, Chicago) is?

https://www.dailywire.com/news/45115/shock-controversial-chicago-prosecutor-drops-emily-zanotti

Jessie Smollett's case was dropped by the prosecutor (who had initially recused herself, being a friend to the family, and perhaps unrelated, to Michelle Obama's chief of staff) because of community service he did, before this case was even a thing.
The police/prosecutors must have fucked up some how, Mark Geragos (his lawyer) basically predicted this a month ago.

Not the police. They are furious over this turn of events. This all falls on the head of the prosecutor.
