Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

And no conversation either about the recent political moves in the US, especially the one about giving statehood to DC, and people using the constitution to simultaneously defend it and condemn it.

A hillarious bit of course is proponents going back to the 1800s to make their case stronger pertaining to the nature of how other states were added to the union and the inevitable apples-to-oranges of their case. This is unrelated to the lack of coverage of the kids still in cages on the border, lack of advancement on the new DHS structure, and the many many cases of police violence that have happened since Lt. Nazario's absolute insult of a traffic stop.

When I said at the beginning of the new US administration that I hoped every single political move worldwide was met with as much scrutiny as they had for the previous four years, this is exactly what I expected to happen instead. These threads have gone too quiet.

There is still a lot wrong with what is happening in this country. We are approaching 100 days, so less than a third of a year, and this stuff doesn't get fixed overnight. Several agencies were weakened, and have not had a chance to recover. There was an increase in people coming across the border at the same time. The administrations main efforts have been to get COVID under control and keep the economy from completely tanking.

Biden has also reached out to our allies to try and repair relationships.

For me, this thread is slower because I've simply got other places I talk about this sort of thing, since traffic here has plummetted.

To my eyes, it genuinely looks like the current administration is making the right moves, or at least ones I can understand. I've listened to several in-depth interviews with people in CBP and DHHS where they detail out the steps taken since the end of January. From the beginning, they are expanding more "permanent" housing facilities on-site so that there's less need for "cages" to simply handle the incoming kids. First, they built FEMA-style triage tents (like ones that were build as temp COVID wards) because they were quickest. At the same time they brought in shipping container-style trailers, because they were the next quickest. All while building out more permanent facilities. Just in the last 3 weeks, they've cut the number of kids in CBP-custody nearly in half, and of those, there's fewer and fewer in any sort of make-shift over-flow. The average time-in-CBP-custody is still too high (the max is supposed to be 72 hours, but average is about 122 hours right now...but it's been dropping). They've spent 10s of millions of dollars securing unused hotel rooms all across the SW. My family has friends in Wisconsin that own a campground that if often used by various non-profits to bring at-risk or special needs kids to spend time on a lake, etc. They were reached out to by the DHHS to see if they could use the facility to take care of a small group of 12 kids there. To me, reaching out to a random campground in rural Wisconsin definitely inspired confidence that there are more people genuinely trying to do what they can, including being willing to throw necessary funds at it, and also thinking outside of the box.

Unfortunately, those family "friends" said they were not willing to provide their facilities for use to DHSS for "the mexican kids", because "that's Nancy Pelosi's problem."

Ah, Rick Santorum recycling the fallacy. How did he get a job at CNN?

Looking forward to the joint address to congress and the roll out of the Jobs/Infrastructure bill tomorrow. On the whole I think the administration has been good. I wish they would explain covid reality a bit more. I wish they could whip more votes for DC and PR statehood too. Overall though it's the exact opposite of the last 4 years...Competent!

What does frighten me is how much the Republican party has chosen to embrace Q. Just recently Tracy Diaz aka Tracy Beanz was elected to the executive committee of the Horry County GOP. The agreement no matter how tacit of the GOP is allowing it to spread.

So the insane are hand in hand with people who are openly saying "build it back never". The goal if they can't be in charge they will throw a tantrum and pull it all down.

I did phone banking last weekend with the Human Rights Campaign prepping for 2022 hopefully nail the GOP coffin shut.

First they wanted us to believe that antifa dressed up to look like Trump supporters and went to the Capital Building, now a book will get kids across the border, what's next?

And for the past five days Fox News has been going in on that every chance it got.

Lindsay Graham, it's going to come out, Chinese pornography... Oh, this is weird. Who has some popcorn?

Eh

Eh, I'm not putting too much into anything Lin Wood does/says.

I think the chinese pornography thing is a reference to this radio interview: (skip to 33:14)

IMO, an organization closed up shop in 2020, didn't renew their domain, someone else bought it because it had some prominence, and uses it to host porn (none of it particularly good/interesting. ;) )

I just thought it was funny.

How dare they call him names! That's our thing! I mean the magnitude of attention they give to this story vs discussing the actual infrastructure bill is absurd.

Today marks the 76th anniversary of the official German Instrument of Surrender which is when the 2nd world war in Europe officially ended. We have to make sure such a radical government will never come to power anymore, otherwise it will be the end of the world.
