One of the two official Apple resellers for Croatia reopened one of their stores today. As a promo, they were selling base-model M1 MacBook Airs for just €800, which is €500 less than the original retail price. Of course, the classifieds are filled with listings of brand-new, unopened base-model MacBook Airs listed for €1,000 now.

We brought our new laptop to three client meetings over the last 2 weeks. At least once each time, they reached out and put their fingers on the screen, thinking it's a touch screen.

Given that most laptops aren't touch screens, as far as I know there are no non-glossy touch screens, AND there are zero (nor have there ever been) Macbooks with touch screens... it's amazing that we're three-for-three with people just defaulting to think this laptop is a touchscreen so strongly that they just assume they can pinch-to-zoom.

They might be used to using Microsoft Surfaces or - *heave* - iPads with Bluetooth keyboards. Thankfully a multi-touch pad replicates multi-touch zoom in most cases without fingerprints.

I’ve had my HP laptop with a touchscreen since 2016, and while I do not use it that often as a tablet, it’s still nice to be viewing a map and just pinching or spreading (cheeks?) my fingers so I can zoom in our out. Or just *tap* and close a window. It’s a really nice thing to have despite the use case being so little.

While only marginally related: our DSO subsidiary runs a citrix environment which for whatever reason prevents them from joining MS teams meetings easily. So any time there’s a Teams session with one of the higher ups, they just join on their iPads (Knox higher ups have those) because it simply works without faffing around. And then you see people constantly jabbing their fingers straight at the camera if they’re doing anything in parallel because screen and cam are so close together, it’s extremely noticeable and distracting 😐

I don't drive, I fly.
Publication editor sends me an email telling me I quote another author in my article but said author is not in the references.
Okay, common mistake, easy to fix, since the editor provided me the name of the author. I don't remember quoting this particular author, but since there are lots of those, I don't think too much about it.
I open the article on Google Docs and do a quick Ctrl+f
0/0 found
That's odd.
I do a search in Google Drive
7 different documents have a match (and a few are versions of the article)
I opened all of them and when I search in them, I also get 0/0 found.
Maybe it's in a comment, or something that was deleted? Nope. One of the matches is a PDF of an article not written by me. :-?
I am still baffled.

How do you feel about confronting them about their possible mistake?

I did. I replied with "I can't find this author in my text".
What baffles me is that the Google Drive search gives me a few hits that I can't find inside the document.
