Random Thoughts....

For what it's worth, I have a friend who went to an apparently good college for photography in Powell. He's got his degree in that field now. His work prospect is the same as it was before he went and got the degree (he's actually come back and is working the same job as before). He went because he really likes photography, he's not disappointed or anything with it, but he couldn't find any work in the photography field in the year since he graduated. He's done some local photography stuff for a few people, but by no means has that been enough to support him.

Now, he has also said the experience was fantastic, the equipment and facilities they have were worth it completely worth it. What he learned wasn't all that much more than someone really into it as a hobby would eventually know, but he's happy with it. As someone else looking at him with his degree, well I can't say it worked out well for him. Maybe if/when he moves to somewhere else that isn't in the middle of nowhere he'll be more equipped, but the fact of the matter is right now, here, his photography degree isn't doing anything for him.

I'm not saying the same is true in other places, but around here, a photography degree certainly isn't as good as most others.

The commercials for that "Vampire's Suck" movie are way more annoying than "Twilight" itself...true story.

Well, Douchenut and Fishbreath (their actual names don't matter, they're the retards behind all the Movie movies) are the worst "filmmakers" of all time. The wikipedia article on them has some of the best critic quotes I've ever seen

"Friedberg and Seltzer do not practice the same craft as P.T. Anderson, David Cronenberg, Michael Bay, Kevin Costner, the Zucker Brothers, the Wayans Brothers, Uwe Boll, any dad who takes shaky home movies on a camping trip, or a bear who turns on a video camera by accident while trying to eat it. They are not filmmakers. They are evildoers, charlatans, symbols of Western civilization's decline..."

"Writer/directors Friedberg and Seltzer are a scourge. They?re a plague on our cinematic landscape, a national shame, a danger to our culture, a typhoon-sized natural disaster disguised as a filmmaking team, a Hollywood monster wreaking havoc on the minds of America?s youth and setting civilization back thousands of years."

"Most of it is just referring to whatever movie is popular at the time - and they keep getting worse with every film... I drank, I beat myself silly, I touched substances that I would never imagine doing before or ever again just to prepare for this movie, and it didn't help at all."

:lmao:

But i'll just give up here. I had my share of discussion with engineers who tell you that everything that's not a business or engineering major is worthless, i won't get into it again.

Oi, I would've loved to do a double degree with arts in my eng degree (More specifically music).

I plan on slightly switching careers once I finish this degree, but if I didn't do it then I would've never had my eyes opened to other possibilities as well.

The most important thing is to do something you love; The money follow naturally once you do something you're passionate about. If you love something, you'll find a way to continue doing so well into the future.

On another note, getting up a 5:30 sucks, but I have to take my mother to the hospital very early as she is having an operation today. I hope it all works out.

That's hilarious. But seriously, they're the scourge of the earth.

Do any other Aussies (note w are yet again dominating Random Thoughts pages ) want to punch their TVs after seeing that White Pages song/ad thingy? I am going toscream if it comes on again.

Yes,yes, yes and oh my god yes.

That guy doing the singing is seriously repulsive.

I really have no motivation to go sit in my business calculus class for 3 hours tonight....

*sigh* I'll take a crossword puzzle, I suppose.

I'm going to miss the ease of checking out expensive toys once I'm done with school, that's for sure.

Yes, however that doesn't mean I'm still not undermotivated.

However, thanks, that was the kick in the face I needed to get my ass out of my chair.

I don't know why, but I feel kinda invisible at school lately. I think it's probably because I don't know many people in summer school and I've been stuck in Finals Hell lately, but oh well. :(

...nobody likes me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go eat worms cheesecake

I'm staying in a Missouri riverboat casino where the interior of it looks like a downtown area. It got me thinking. I'd really like to live in a village where I could walk to small shops and restaurants. You'd be one first names basis with the shop keepers and it just seems to be a more pleasant way to live.

The two towns I've lived in aren't that way, in Tulsa you had to drive to get anywhere because it was all spread out (thank you urban sprawl). In Asbury, there's nothing (it's a town of ~200) so you have to drive to one of the larger cities which are urban sprawled as well.

I was really put off doing a B.A after what my sis went through (4 years of Fine Art and Journalism, not really good) and just wanted to do a Diploma instead. It's just that I want to get the best out of the course and from what I saw at RMIT, the B.A looked more equipped than the TAFE (obviously because it's much more important) and the quality and production was better. But really, they were just trying to sell me their courses. And I got really sucked into the B.A woman that talked about how good it would be for me to do that since it looks good on your resume blah blah blah.

But I'll have to wait once I see the other two Photography places I'm keen on going to.
One of the most successful people I know (financially, but more importantly mentally,) took a semester of college, got pissed with uninspiring classes. Subsequently dropped her college savings into traveling abroad for two years and practicing her trade. A year into her travel she had no debt and positive cash flow and absolutely loved her work. She gets more work because travel the world looks a lot more interesting than the other million kids with a BA in photography. It's about doing rather than contemplating and separating yourself from the status quo. A BA is hardly a bad thing to have but don't treat it as a crutch, because everyone else has one too.

Don't worry about learning stuff, if your passionate you can learn anything. There are a million different ways to dive deep into a field like photography.

This stupid performance assessment thingy is taking freaking forever to finish grrrhh! Also, it's stupidly wet today, I can't be arsed going into town just to hand the fucker in. I'll have park like six blocks away because the damn uni has decided to remove like half their parking places for some reason and I've left my umbrella at my friend's house again. Me = FAIL! :wall:

I'll have to do it tomorrow while I'm going birthday present shopping for my mum....but, I have no idea what to get her yet, and her birthday's on Thursday. Bugger.
