Random Thoughts....

Not at all. I live in the southermost state, Rio Grande do Sul. That is happening far away, but still scares me.

Historically, drug gangs are located in the hills around Rio de Janeiro, but in the last few years police started occupying those places and therefore defying the drug gangs' power. This week the criminals fought back, setting cars on fire, shooting busses, throwing bombs in police stations, etc and the authorities had to do something, namely, a huge operation using not only the regular police but also Army and Navy troops. The criminals are fleeing and torching cars on their way, trying to slow down the troops. The surreal thing is that there are 2 news channels broadcasting everything live.

Rumor has it that the police will deploy helicopters and snipers to try and kill the bosses as they flee.

That is scary, and I'm glad to see you are far away from it. I'm in no position to give an opinion, but from here at least, it sounds like the right thing is being done. I hope the outcome is more positive than negative in the long run.

I am kinda happy to see some effort from the authorities, but there is always the matter of "what will those criminals do if there is no drug traffic?"
Some specialists say kidnappings and bank robberies would skyrocket.
Watch "Elite Squad 2", if you can. It is a pretty accurate description of the situation.

Admittedly, all of my knowledge of Brazil comes from the "City of..." movies, but isn't a pretty huge chunk of the problem just the sheer number of people in slums who just have not much to live with? That would make becoming a criminal mighty tempting, and contribute to the massive amount of manpower the gangs have.

I don't have any solutions, just thinking that something has to be done at the root of the problem.

For someone admitting to not know much about it, you just said something very sensible. :)

Hey, your country makes good movies, can't help but learn a little from watching them :D

Funnily enough the awesome movie Brazil has nothing to do with the country of the same name. :D

Wow, and I bitch about Honduran drug crime.

To Americans: i wish you a happy thanksgiving

Is it better than the first one? The first part was like the "want to know more...?"-informercials from Starship Troopers with all the fascist ideology, but all of the irony removed.

If I had a quid for everytime the chief tech says something is 'fuckin' shit' then I could pay for all the stuff that is fuckin' shit.

Depends. It's much more political and somewhat more realistic.
I think it's a better movie as a whole, even if the first one is a better action movie.

I bought a letter-scratchy-thing, it had both 'gear' and 'hamster' and I didn't win anything :(

Anyway - the interview I did with Anberlin has finally been put up - can I get some opinions of how I did? I edited it and everything... :)

Linky.

That's strange - I had a weird feeling while I was recording it. It was as if you were in the room - right there. :dunno:

Random Thought: I'm digging her shoes.

I am failing at being a girl again, all I can think regarding those shoes is "Ow."

Then what are you doing in there for?

Got a 12 week placement up in Canberra with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. At least my house is about 15 minutes walk to a relatively ok shopping center with a big woolworths and coles, which makes shopping a hell of a lot easier.

I'm already missing Melbourne though - Family, Dog, Car, food. Everything up here is so damn expensive compared to Melbourne.

No, you're not. You're failing at being a silly and vain girl but showing FTMFW at being a practical girl. :D
