He's working on HESS eh? Very cool. Love the super high-energy physics. I got a PM from NoChestWig about studying in Zurich, and we have quite a few German collabos who are working here on campus on high energy stuff. Maybe thats one way to go... maybe I need to expand. I'll have to think about it.

If his line of work is close enough for him being able to answer any questions about getting a Ph.D in Germany you might have, PM me, i guess i can somehow get you in touch...

On a completely unrelated not, i went to see Gamma Ray tonight. It was maybe the best night out since... well, maybe even since i regularily went to see Heavy Metal gigs in my early twenties. And by confessing to like this stuff i am significantly lowering FG's hipster quotient. ;)
Ruhr Area Germans: Gamma Ray are playing in Bochum on thursday! If you even remotely like metal, go!

Yep, that's a V Coustic in the last two pictures ;)

What i like most about Gamma Ray -beside the music- is that fact tha Kai Hansen in constantly grinning like a madman and that, even after more than dozen years in the current lineup, the still are positively confused on stage, with both Hansen and Richter trying to play the opening riff to songs simultaneously, leaving no one to play the second guitar and the band... confused. It's just a joy watching them interact.

Helloween cover song to close this night's gig: Future World.

Is Minnesota too far to drive to from Boston? :|

Evolution only exists across generations, so yes you would need very short generation time ie. Drosophila Melanogaster or almost every form of bacteria. You cannot see it in any appreciable way across a species, not selected individuals or populations, over the short term.

I caught a program on PBS (NOVA maybe) that showed a snake and it's favorite food, a newt, in some state out west that were changing very rapidly. The newt was becoming more toxic, to the point that it has become posinous to humans, and the snake has too, but because it absorb the toxins from the newt.

I've had a bruise under my fingernail for over a month now, and I just now found out why: it wasn't a bruise per se, but a healed cut where the blood clot stuck to the fingernail and slowly moved forward as the nail grew. It just now grew far enough for me to cut it off.

Google puts Boston to Minneapolis at 23 hours 19 minutes, so a solid two day drive.
Depends on the reason you're driving there for if it's too far or not.
