Random Thoughts....

Went to the funeral of a family friend today. Met his sister for the first time. My God they were alike.
He wrote his own eulogy, which one of his nieces read out.
His niece's 9 year old son had wanted to attend the funeral to say a few words about his Uncle. Instead it was dictated over the phone and read out on his behalf. That left everyone in the chapel in tears. 9 going on 49...

He was just 17 when he had his accident and became a quadriplegic. That was 50 years ago this year.
One of the taxi drivers that eventually became very good friends with him, said he heard about the diving accident at the local pool, and the rule that no one was to swim in the diving pool, which was brought in to stop it happening again. When he met Nev, he realised that it was his accident he'd heard about all those years earlier.

It was really weird to be back at the care facility he lived in without him being there. He was always front and centre of the Lodge gatherings, making sure everyone was ok, or as master of ceremonies.
If anyone needed a hand, Nev was always there. They're really going to miss him. He was the life of the place.

We're going to miss him on Christmas Day. He'd come to our place for the day, because his family were too far away to travel to. He was always up for a game of pool and a laugh. Now it's just going to be Mum, Dad and I, which will make it pretty much a non-event.

My Puffalump looks obese. She can't help it. She's genetically predisposed to fluffiness and can't get small (healthily) no matter what she does. That poly-fil just won't collapse.

BACK OFF, MAN.

It's more the "If I smoke and drink I am funding my future healthcare via taxes. Since food is not taxed (bar VAT on eating out) what are the lardarses doing to fund their future care?" approach. When I hear of people with treatable cancers and other conditions they acquired through no fault of their own being denied new drugs because an NHS Trust has blown its budget on oversize beds, hoists, operating tables, care for Type II diabetes and the like to cater for people who have eaten themselves into the state that requires them it makes my blood boil.

When I smoked regularly I was a filthy cancer-ridden smoker. If I drink a few too many I am a sad drunk. I enjoy driving and pay a shit load for the privilege but hippies tell me I am killing Gaia. But if I speak my mind and point out that someone might consider giving salad a try? Oh no, then I am being an insensitive jerk with no thought for their feelings, it's not their fault etc etc etc.

Well guess what? Fuck off! When the playing field is level, call me back.
As you know I am of the rather fat persuasion. I am quite happy not to use NHS resources whilst I do not have to, I have subsidised (by my employer) private healthcare, I do pay a substiantial amout for it to cover my wife and two of the three children. Do I ask for my taxes back? No I do not. Where would one decide someone is too fat for free medical - 2 Stone over, 3, 4, 5 where and who says what is the correct weight anyway? It would be a slippery path as the government on the next austerity drive woul cut the weight from say 3 to 2 etc. if that saved them the amount that they wanted, until there was no NHS left.

On the other hand of course, us fat boys are going to peg out about 5 to 10 years early so what you loose of the beds you gain on the Pensions anyway.

I think you misunderstood me. In a large majority of cases being overweight is a lifestyle choice just like smoking, drinking to excess, hurling yourself off cliffs with wingsuits etc etc etc and I am not trying to deny anyone that choice.

What I object to is the PC brigade and the fact that we are forced to tiptoe around people who are overweight in case we hurt their feelings. It's the hypocrisy and double standards that piss me off.

If you smoke there is no end to the TV and radio commercials exhorting you to quit. If you see or hear or read any commercial for any product containing alcohol then it's always "Enjoy responsibly" etc etc etc. And then the next commercial ends with "I'm Lovin' It" with no warnings or censure whatsoever.

Doctors can quiz us about how many units we drink and try to persuade us to enrol in the Stop Smoking clinic but the government tells them to be sensitive to people who might need to shed a few pounds. Probably in case they get upset and go home to do some "comfort eating". Well I "comfort drink" and I used to "comfort smoke" and I demand equal treatment!

My best friend is less than 12 hours younger than me (we both just turned 43) and is roughly the same height. He weighs 260lbs (nearly 120kg) and has been having chest pains and arm pain for the last 3 months. His doctor reckons it's angina but too early to say for sure. Three other people I would call really good friends are a similar size if not bigger and one who is a year younger than me was diagnosed with pancreatitis about 5 years ago in spite of not being a big drinker and his Dad has had to deal with type II diabetes for years.

Meanwhile in spite of promises our government is failing to follow through with healthy food in schools because of the usual raft of piss-poor excuses and another generation of kids are heading down a similar path.

Man this giant hamburger I'm having right now is tasty......

I tend to agree though, although I don't think we (they) should start giving fat people the same treatment we give smokers or drinkers, if anything we should stop demonizing smoking and drinking, and let people do whatever the hell they want, to many damn rules in this world anyway.

You know what grinds my gears? It's not the smokers/drinkers/fat/people/whoever costing healthcare institutions money, it's the freeloaders that manage to spend their entire lives on healthcare without having anything wrong......

Also I would bang Adele like a screen door in a hurricane.

No.

I only post when websites I need to use are slow/down or I'm pooping. The latter happens more often than the former.

You know what grinds my gears? That, and the fact healthcare stuff costs so damn much. I like private healthcare but at least make it worth paying for. Most people I hear have a $1,000 deductible, at that point, most of the shit that happens to you is out of pocket. I was fortunate enough to get a plan that has a $250 deductible so regular things can be taken care of. It's the little things that become major things which, in the end, aren't always treatable when they're major issues.

Healthcare sucks in general. If the costs weren't so freaking high, I wouldn't mind paying out of pocket.

It's like with auto insurance.

I am fat and I know it. (In my case there are medical reasons but I'll let that go - I agree I do still eat too much). I agree on the point MWF makes that the PC brigade will make everyone afraid to discuss lots of topics that need discussion in Ukania - not just being fat. Some hard talking needs to be done and it isn't being.

$1000 deductible on healthcare sucks. When I spent four days in hospital getting my nose dug free I paid 40? out of my own pocket, 10? per day. That barely covers the food. Any meds were free, only some of the post-op stuff to use for some weeks were a few ?s out of my pocket for the shared price. I've had maybe seven trips to the doc before/after, and in total I paid 10? for them because they all were in one quarter. If they weren't it'd have been 20?

Well let it start here, Cobol old chum. Vegetables (not including potatoes) on half the plate, oily fish twice a week, regular gentle exercise and overall portion control.

Otherwise you won't be here to protest against the new generation of nuclear power stations, you fat c**t! ;)

Why the hell is my sister-in-law asking me what she did with her car keys?

For some reason, anytime I think of "where are the car keys?" I think of fisting. >_>

Damn porn.

Well, I guess I won't be watching Hawaii 5-0... Fuck you Hurricane Sandy.

Preeeeeeeeetty sure that's not what my sister-in-law was alluding to...
