Living alone for the first time in my life isnt nearly as hard as ive been lead to believe, managing food (mostly, lazy to cook sometimes), laundry and general self care pretty easily. I guess deciding not to be useless while I was with family and pick up the essentials of home shopping, basics of cooking and home care helped out

/tbh though internet and TV were my primary concerns OF COURSE

Ordered a Kindle thorugh Amazon.de, was supposed to be delivered today. Heard the postman deliver something large and heavy, walk to the door, to be greeted by an open box lying on the floor, sans Kindle. So I walk out to see if the mailman is still around, he is, he didn't notice anything weird about it, walks to his car and rummages about in the mailbag, nothing there. Quickly call Amazon support (okay, have them call me), get tranferred to Kindle support, explain the whole business in my best German (which isn't very good, but the lady understood me). They agreed to refund the money, and hopefully the replacement I ordered straight away is still in time for me to take it on holiday (leaving on saturday).

I checked out the box, it looks like someone used a heatgun to pry open the tape and then reseal it, with not much success, which explains why the thump on the floor made the box fly open.

TL;DR: Amazon support rocks, postal services are a bunch of thieving bastards, as usual.

No, the mailman said the box was sealed. But since the tape had been opened before, it didn't seal very well, and cracked open when it hit the floor, tape side down:

I assume that they're going to put the device in lockdown mode as well? That's low of whoever it was to have done that.

It's a Kindle wifi, as in the simplest one without backlight or any other silly function, I'm not sure there is much to lock down in those.

There are certainly places where they're crap more often but having worked in the postal service I'd say that theft is very rare. The sorting processes in the hubs are very automated, and packages are scanned and weighed multiple times, if there's a sudden disparity the system will notice.

So I think the theft must have occurred either at the Amazon facility (doesn't seem very likely) or in the final stages of delivery. Still not easy, at least to my experience, for a postal employee to find a parcel with something nice it, cut it open, re-seal it and pass it along to your colleagues without anyone noticing. Where I worked there was always many people around, big open spaces with no places to hide, and camera surveillance. And obviously anyone found stealing will be suspended and fired instantly.

tbh cleaning is the worst. I don't really care if my place is clean or not so...... yeah unless someone's coming over, meh.... I'm a terrible person and I know it. Hah, new building, there's no pests yet, and not a fuck was given.
