Random Thoughts....

They took the image down.

Yup, that thing is called skeleton.

Well, for all your winter Olympics fans, see you all in Vancouver. The countdown clock which is a few blocks away from my house says it's some 540 days away.

Hell yeah, can't wait!

No, the location isn't competely right. Just move southwards a little bit and it will become visible. I suppose the truck stopped at the smoke.

edit: and damn, that's pretty insane how many cities there have been mapped like that. We in Europe can only wait :/

I've never used streetview till now, it's pretty damn cool.

I wonder what South Ossetia looks like in Streetview.

Yay I've just ordered a Nikon SB600 flash. Only annoying thing is that the D50 doesn't do slave flashes, so I'll have to live without that until I upgrade my camera.

I apologize for the large images, but I need some help. Can someone identify the item next to the bomb in the first image, and then get some more info on the second item.

To the right of the bomb, is a rocket launcher, and to the right of that looks to be some kind of old(ish) radar or sensor system...? The second picture looks to be a couple of saws... And I would say another rocket launcher. Although makes/types/originalities I don't know.

Anyway, thanks to the fact that my parents have agreed to pay for part of the flash, I am now looking at a cheap 50mm lens for portrait type shots. Or something of the like. This has been suggested, and seems pretty good for the money. Thoughts?

Buy it :) I have that one and it's great value-for-money. Good for portrait and pics in low light.

The posts about Google street view got me thinking and I'm surprised the eco-mentalists aren't complaining about all the CO2 emissions from the cars used to take those photos.

I also get the feeling that I'm now on some sort of watchlist for viewing a post asking for advice in identifying an object next to a bomb. Hello FBI operative!

I've viewed that post a few times, so it'll be MI5 (or is it MI6 - no that's Bond) watching me. :D

I wonder if they'll send me a polite letter.

I found those at a garage sale. I knew that it was a rocket launcher, and that the second was artillery munitions, but just seeing if I could get more info from the military nuts around here.

A quick Google search would indicate the lower image is a transport tube for recoilless rifle ammo.

The tube to the right of the bomb looks like an AT-4 Anti-Tank weapon.
