Must've needed a hard shutdown, and the only way to do so is, apparently, to make it thermal. That's some good planning ahead.

Dick Cheney got broken and has to go to the inaugural in a wheelchair.

Really? That's funny... I'm watching it now and haven't seen old Dicky yet.

I'm actually kind of excited about Obama for the first time now, because after dozens of months of hearing this guy make big promises and bold claims, we actually get to see what he is like in action.

On the one hand, he's been built up so much that he's going to have a tough time living up to his own reputation. But on the other, it's pretty easy to shine when you are being compared with the GWB administration.

I don't mean to dwell on the past, but I'm just hearing in the background Obama talking about the need for multilateralism and that America will only become more powerful by using its power prudently, and I'm thinking how far off the map George Bush's policies were and how easily he could have gotten the world on America's side after 9/11.

I actually remember clearly watching GWB's first inagurution - only leaves room for hope in Obama. So here's to all the success he can get because he'll need it, and because it'll affect all of us around the world.

Speech just finished actually... now, get to work Barry, and Hollywood please fuck off and let him do his job.

The speech was well-delivered and was interesting stuff.

It's just nice to see a president who doesn't think that "orator" is the name of one of the Transformers.

It's amazing how many people are putting their problems on Obama's shoulders. If they don't be care stuff like that could ruin him.

he is pretty careful now warning everybody that it won't be easy, so I guess he is very aware of that himself as well :)

No worries on OBAMA - hes a closet Muslim who hangs around with terrorists, and strangely for a Muslim has a Christian pastor who is a Black extremist, he's going to be rubbish - well according to McCain he is of course.

I hope he is going to be good for the US and good for the rest of the world. Enough with the wars already btw.

I've heard 3 mentions today, by news anchor people, saying "...and make sure you enter '.gov' and not '.com.'" when referencing the whitehouse's website. :p God bless America.

edit: I'm crushed and disappointed. Whitehouse.com used to be a porn site. Now it's just some sort of news story collector site. Bummer.

Japanese noodles:

800px-Instant_ramen.jpg

I officially hate you for telling me about them; now I'm addicted! :p

They're a lot softer than I had imagined. I was expecting something brittle and crumbly, like a wafer, but they're quite nice and malleable.

Several of those noodles are Korean.

Took Japanese in High School, worked at a Thai restaurant for 3 years and dated a Korean :D

In North America, Japanese instant noodles were imported starting in the 1970s bearing the name "ramen." And so the term ramen is often used in North America to refer to instant noodles.

Yes they're not real ramen (the ones I buy are made locally and are an Indonesian style, for example), but for something as cheap as this, I don't think it really matters how "authentic" it is. :p

Damn, you people are making me want noodles now. Any noodles. I'll have to buy some.

I didn't bother watching the Obama inauguration speech at stupid o'clock in the morning, gotta work today. I'll see the important bits on the news here tonight anyway. Curious to see what happens from here on in, even if I don't usually pay US politics much attention at all. This incoming President has got my attention however, just like the rest of the world, I guess.

And booooh. I think it's time our house got air conditioning, it hasn't cooled down at all after the hot day yesterday, despite the night being much cooler outside. Old, poorly-insulated timber houses with badly placed windows / doors officially suck. We have to run the heating all the time in winter too, too much heat escapes.

Isn't the fact that your house hasn't cooled down at all a sign of good insulation?

I meant that more in terms of the house keeping heat in during winter. Poor design contributes to the excessive heat part. Few windows actually open, and those that do tend to get stuck open. There's not porch or other overhangs for shade, and the local council took out all our street trees which used to screen us in summer because they were 'dangerous'. Double glazing in the windows is supposed to help with that too. The whole thing needs remodeling really.

I'm really not into instant noodles of any sort anymore, and I never really like Japanese style ramen that you get from noodle bars. I'd much rather have some wonton egg noodle soup, beef egg noodle soup, or pho.

For anyone ever in Toronto or the GTA for whatever reason and you feel like noodles or just need a cheap, delicious, fast meal, GO HERE. They are the best. Period.
